I'm attracted to B.A. because I love guys that love kids. He has such a sweet, gentle heart that he rarely shows. (I've said it before and I'll say it again...he's so tender when caring for Murdock in CURTAIN CALL. If Murdock had died, B.A. would have been inconsolable.) Plus I like guys who are practical and have a talent for fixing things, because I certainly can't!

Maybe we need to launch the B.A. appreciation thread! The main thing that would make B.A. and I a little bit incompatible is that he doesn't love animals. Maybe he could learn to like them if Murdock wasn't always carrying on with his invisible animals! I think B.A. is really afraid of animals and therefore pretends not to like them. Maybe I could show him some nice animals that would help him get past that fear/hatred of animals.

I think B. A. simply doesn't know too much about animals, and because of Murdock he is not interested in them. Yet, I'm sure he would them if he had a chance

I suspect B.A. is a little like that since he's a Chicago guy. Plus, as you said, can you imagine being in enemy territory in Nam with Murdock going on and on about his invisible pets? ;D

What I meant was of course "I'm sure he would LOVE them" but I see you understand I've always thought that Murdock wasn't insane until the end of the war, but perhaps I missed something.

I've always thought that Murdock wasn't insane until the end of the war, but perhaps I missed something. I never could figure it out exactly. My theory is that Hannibal wanted a secret weapon for the team, hence Murdock's commitment to the V.A. He knew he'd never be suspected as long as he was there. And Murdock simply took it a few steps too far... What do you guys think? It's one of the more interesting unanswered questions about the team.

It would be interesting to know more about Murdock's past, wouldn't it? Like just when was he diagnosed as being insane, was it after the others on the team were incarcerated at Fort Bragg, etc. etc.

I think there must have already been a bit of insanity in Murdock even though I often believe he is not really insane. I think it is just that he likes to keep us all guessing. Wasn't it Face who once said that sometimes he thinks Murdock is really the only one who is sane or something to that effect?

Wasn't it Face who once said that sometimes he thinks Murdock is really the only one who is sane or something to that effect? I can't recall the exact episode, but you're right! Without revealing too much of my own past, I can say that people with high IQs and creative streaks (and Murdock is obviously one of them) often struggle with social norms, office politics, and the challenges of day-to-day existence. For a while my school psychologist thought I had Asperger's syndrome, which is a form of high-functioning autism. Like HM I could impersonate famous people 'till the cows came home, make jokes, etc., but had the toughest time when it came to making small talk. So you may have something there. Perhaps he was always a little "insane" but the war made him more so. (I always liked "mad" better than "insane," because the latter connotates lack of judgment, inability to reason, and so forth. Is he really insane in the way we think of it?)

For me, Murdock was always sane, just behaving this way so that nobody knew who he really is. He never cared what others thought about him. And he had fun, whatever he did. The only thing which often bothered me, was how did it happen that he ended up in V.A. Hospital. Someone here mentioned before, that it was perhaps because of a mental breakdown he actually had after the war.
