*trying to think positive thoughts on Frankie* He does have his skills... even if they are limited compared to the others.

But it seemed like Frankie was often sort of bumbling, didn't it?
I think Murdock was just as good at special effects....I'm thinking of his special effects when that guy was tied to the train track in BULLETS AND BIKINIS.

Skills? Is the A-Team turning into Napoleon Dynamite?
If so, I Vote For Frankie.
Seriously, I think comparing Frankie to the others misses the point. Frankie is what, in his 20s or so? And the other four are what... in their late 30s, 40s, and more? Of course the others are going to have more skills.
I always saw Frankie as the young apprentice.

I always saw Frankie as an annoying add-on by lazy writers to fix what wasn't broken... I think that's even what Dirk Benedict said almost verbatim. Dirk couldn't even remember the actor's name...the audience had to remind him! Poor Frankie! LOL.
But Jo is right, he CAN'T know as much as four Special Ops vets. He doesn't have the experience. But he was good-hearted. I liked him for that, at least.

Another nice Eddie Velez shot...does that count as saying something nice? And since we're about to embark into season 5: He is WWWAAAAAYYYY better looking in this shot without the skanky long hair.

What's also interesting is that he's a "5th member" - but not the first 5th member. Tawnia and Amy were also "5th members," no? But because he's a guy, and they were women, it's as if he's got to live up to the other guys. The ladies don't have to have as many skills?
I think there were probably gender dynamics which made a male 5th member more difficult to pull off. Is that because being a guy makes him potentially more of a member? But he's clearly a member who doesn't live up to the other four - but that's not as much a consideration for the ladies.
Is the bumbling a way to "feminize" him?
Anyway, it seems like people feel more comfortable with women as the 5th member - which is pretty interesting.

Actually, I didn't like the girls either. I thought no one was a fifth member. It's interesting that Frankie didn't fit in to me because the first A-Teams I ever saw were mid 5th season, but even then, I never thought of him as a member. But I never thought Amy and Tawnia were either. Maybe they're less obtrusive because they're like "freelance" members, but Frankie is thrown in with them to the point that HE'S living with them and Murdock is STILL the outsider working elsewhere. WTH? Or maybe Jo is right and noone cares if the girls don't know much...

Oddly enough, a fic I wrote recently was told through Frankie's POV, and it got a lot of positive response.
But in the end, I see him as incongruous. He's too young to replace Hannibal, not as goodlooking or smooth as Face, not as tough or tender as B.A., and certainly not as off-the-wall as Murdock.
Had he been around from the start, and only as an occasional guest star, I may have liked them better. In fact, I wish they'd done that with all the associate characters (they could have done it with Amy, Tawnia, Dr. Sullivan, Daniel, or any of the other popular guest stars.) I dunno, it might have given the show a different dynamic.

One reason I cannot accept a fifth member of the team is because the team has the long history of already being together over 10 years when the series begins.
However, it is hard for me to remember what I really thought about Amy way back when the show first aired....i.e., if I went ahead and accepted her as a member. Perhaps I did, because of course I would not have known that she was going to be off the show. But now that I know, when I see the Amy-episodes, I do not fully accept her as a member.
I don't think I would ever accept Frankie as a member. I think one reason is because he was in cahoots with Stockwell. If he learned anything about the team, he should have told them what Stockwell was trying to do to his father's pension checks and hired the team to take out Stockwell!

I wouldnt say i hate him, he is the lesser of two unessesary evils in season 5. Sometimes i quite like him, but he kinda feels like the cute kid brought into a series when the ratings start to slow a bit. New characters brought into a series can work out surprisingly well, an example is the UK series of Being Human lost all four of their main characters in just over one season and the 'replacements' fitted in like they were always meant to be there, but most of the time it doesnt have the desired effect. Frankie is one of those times
