I think the more I watch this episode, the less I like it.
Is anyone able to make out what the document that Stockwell is holding in the opening scene says? I think it is supposedly a part of Bancroft's memoirs or journal, but I'm not sure what it is really about. It looked to me like I could make out lots of "shall"s and also something about "participant." I was even wondering if someone just typed up rules to a game.
Did the bad guys come after the fake Ellen just to make it seem that she was the real Ellen? I guess that was why.
I do like what Murdock says about Face to Bancroft about how Face would rip the shirt off his back for you...and then go out and scam one for himself.
I wish they had not wasted time on the fake Ellen. I also wish they had not combined the issue of both Ellen and Face meeting their long-lost dad. I think if they wanted the episode to be about Face and his dad, it would have been better to just focus on that and forgot this other child. They could have written in some kind of excuse for why AJ wanted the A-Team for some job, like to get him back into the U.S. or something.
I did chuckle when BA reached out and punched out Owens.
It seems like the team does more torturing of people or threatening of torture in season 5, and I don't like that. In this episode, they sort of torture Owens in the steam thing.
I don't understand why Murdock pulls Face aside to talk to him in front of Bancroft. If he was really going to talk to him about something so important, I would think he would ask for Face to come to someplace where they could talk privately.
I do like how Hannibal outsmarted Edwards' backup plan by having BA and Frankie be the ones who come in when Edwards thought it would be his own men.
At least we do get a fair amount of the van in this episode. And an old-fashioned car chase complete with car flipping and people climbing out of the car uninjured.
I do like Murdock having to deal with whether or not to tell Face about AJ being his dad.
When AJ says to Face "You would know that better than I" it seems that he is implying that he knows about Face not having a family....but does Face know that AJ knows this? Or maybe Face just assumes AJ is referring to him being on the run with the team and thus not getting to connect with any family of his own.
I don't know why AJ didn't just tell Face that he was his dad when Face went into the room to talk with him after Ellen ran out. That would have been the perfect time. Maybe he first wanted to try to reconcile with Ellen.
But Ellen also already seems to know that Face never knew his father....did they perhaps already chat about this earlier?
Face is very sweet in this episode to both AJ and Ellen. He has some good words of wisdom.
Murdock turns into "Dark Murdock" momentarily when he is talking to Stockwell....his tone when he says "I'm a lot closer to that precious diary than you are" reminds me of how he spoke to Stockwell in the court martial trilogy when he told Stockwell he wasn't beyond doing anything he had to in order to rescue his men (or whatever he said).
I wish the DVDs had the alternate ending, i.e. the ending where Face learned AJ wasn't his father.
I'm giving this one a 5 on the Sidney scale tonight ("Good"). I debated about only giving it a 4, but there is enough stuff in here of interest that I am going up to the 5.
