Ugh. I hate Murdock asking to go home now. Was it a joke? If it was, it wasn't delivered like a joke. It wasn't delivered like he was just being facetious or casual. It seemed like a child. Was he reverting to a child-like state? I always hate that line and his delivery of it.

Was he reverting to a child-like state? I always hate that line and his delivery of it. To me, I have always thought it was somewhat out of character too. However, after having viewed many comments about it on the forum over the years, I watched it differently this time. Murdock is playing with the bear for part of the episode, maybe that is indicating his more youthful state of mind in this episode and that is why the line is delivered the way it is? Might be reading too much into it, but since he has been and will be in more dangerous situations than this, it does seem out of character. Unless you view it through the lens of some of his other antics/persona on screen.

If he had said "Bogey wants to go home now" (although by now I think Bogey was "deceased"), then I could see it maybe as him in character more, but to me it is just Murdock the man who is extremely brave in many dangerous situations saying it. I could see Face saying it more than Murdock!

I could see Face saying it more than Murdock! I agree that it didn't seem to fit, although it feels like there is another episode in a later season that this idea too. Maybe Murdock was feeling like that because he wasn't in control of a situation like flying and felt more in danger? I don't know, but I agree that it seems out of place.

All I have in my notes for this one is that I loved that quote from Face: “That's not even a real smile. It's just a bunch of teeth, playing with my mind!” I cracked up. Best line ever. If the usual fee is $175,000 and there's 5 of them, they'd each get $35,000 a job. I always wondered... did Amy/Tawnia get paid? I assume Frankie does, because Stockwell jobs. I think they did once mention Amy getting paid though, right? not a bad little earner, im sure the fee changes though with infinite different variables though Oh yeah, and we do see that... not counting the times they don't get paid, or barely do. Did anyone else ever wonder exactly what Murdock does with his money? Does Face keep a bank account for him? He'd be wise to invest it, since he can't really use it...
When Amy was introduced earlier, her character was less frightened and new. She was almost cocky as she used her 'reporter skills' to explain things. Her character changed for this ep, too. I noted for E3/"The Only Church In Town" that Amy's at the point where they're driving like crazy men being chased by Lynch and she just looks bored...Face just hit on her. He's 38 and she's 26. I have no problem with that. I kind of do, but that's just because I personally have a "ten year rule" (for guys older than me. It's a lot smaller for guys younger than me, though in recent years now that I'm older I guess I can relax that because I'm not at the point where guys too much younger than me would still be trying to get footing as adults). I can't imagine much I'd have in common with someone more than ten years older (or younger) than I am; the last guy I was in a relationship with was about ten years older and even then, every once in a while we'd feel the cultural age difference (not to mention, it creeped me out a bit to think that when he was talking about being in high school, I didn't even have my adult teeth yet). But no, it's not super-creepy like when he's hitting on "co-eds." Face is 38, though? Doesn't he say something in E3 that puts him at about 35? It's something like "when I graduated 12 years ago" or something (I assumed he meant college). Ugh. I hate Murdock asking to go home now. Was it a joke? If it was, it wasn't delivered like a joke. It wasn't delivered like he was just being facetious or casual. It seemed like a child. Was he reverting to a child-like state? If that's the scene I'm thinking about, I thought it was strange, too. Like, I think it was meant to just be sad, but it was so un-Murdock-like; he's never really been someone who whines, isn't up for whatever they need to do, etc. I thought it was an odd line. I could maybe see it coming from Face, but not Murdock. (He looks so plaintive and puppy-dog-like. I would've wanted to hug him if it wasn't for going, "...huh?")
(Reading on-- oh good, guys, it's not just me who thought it was weird. Wonder what the writers were thinking. Like, even if he'd said it in a joking way, it would make more sense to me.)
Murdock has finally come for me! *fans self* would you have climbed up and away? Me, I'd try, but my pullups aren't so great. Knees-to-elbows aren't terrible, though, and I might get by that way. (LOL-- there was one episode where they have to jump onto a helicopter and Murdock is hanging by the skids and struggling to get up, and in my notes I have, "Come on, Murdock; should've worked more on those knees-to-elbows, eh??")

I love that line from Face too. I doubt that Amy/Tawnia got paid. They had a job with the paper and they generally got good stories from it.

I thought they divided up the payment and included Amy. Didn't they do that in BEAST, when they were calculating how much they made as they were driving Murdock back to the VA?

The actress was born in '57. That makes Hannibal 29 years older. Face 12 years older. Murdock 10 years older. And BA 5 years older. On a side note, re: their ages... I kind of enjoy that these are guys in/near middle age (or a bit at the tail end of/past, for Hannibal) and they're still kicking ass and taking names and this is presented as if it's normal. Unlike action hero types these days, who usually are around 25. That's kind of enjoyable for those of us who are around that age ourselves and don't feel as "past it" as current society seems to think we are... (Actually, they're not the only ones. How old was MacGyver?) (WELL and in looking up "80s action shows" to look into this, I've discovered a bunch I never heard of and now maybe need to try to watch...)
I thought they divided up the payment and included Amy. Didn't they do that in BEAST, when they were calculating how much they made as they were driving Murdock back to the VA? Maybe that was it. I thought there was one that they mentioned something about splitting the payment 5 ways. Until then I'd always assumed she didn't get paid, that she did it just for fun (you know, the jazz is its own reward or something, lol), but I suppose maybe it's a sort of "danger pay"-- I mean, after all, she nearly got killed (sort of) her second time out. I wonder if she had to negotiate getting paid, or if they offered...
