Murdock and Face were close because Dwight and Dirk were so close. I think that's what it comes down to. They like to tell how the crew would get them mixed up all the time and call them by each other's name. They were a united front against the madness that was T's and George's (alleged) egos. They just clicked with a lot in common and their chemistry really made Face and Murdock better. I don't think Murdock clicked with Fake(!)Face in the pilot. Dirk and Dwight were something special. I agree, you can tell from day one that they're really good fiends. On and off screen. I don't know if you guys in America saw it, but about 10 years ago a British Comedian/presenter called Justin Lee Collins did a tv show called, Bring Back the A Team and got them all together after doing separate interviews with each one. When they was altogether (except Mr. T, who, for whatever reason didn't show up), Dwight was first to show up, then when Dirk showed up he said," how's long has it been"? "Too long". Dirk said. So I wonder if they had been out of touch for some time. Surprising seeing as they were such good friends. It's a shame they don't see Mr T so much, I wonder why he doesn't participate in stuff that Dwight and Dirk does. In interviews I've seen with him he always says he lovesthe show and had the time of his life making it with the other guys. And he always got on well with Dwight and Dirk. Would be nice to see all 3 of them together. Yeah he's doing stuff, but it would' take NASA to organise his time as catch up with the other two sometimes. That aside, this isn't one of my favourite episodes, it just seems a bit boring, especially with it being in 2 parts. When you first see it you can watch it, still wondering what's going to happen, but it's not one I watch often. Murdock's Witch Doctor singing at B.A was pretty funny though.

Yes, I agree that this one is much too long....I always hate it when they throw in the Nazi stuff and feel like that was unnecessary. They could have just let it be about finding the lost city and I think that would have been sufficient.

I wonder if the Nazi stuff was just so that this would seem more like INDIANA JONES or something?

Yeah, I think they did it for something like that. The nazi was a strange thing to put in, there's a few things they could have done there instead of that, someone must have had their reasons for choosing that I guess. I don't mind two parters as a rule, it's just this one is a tad slow at times & is a bit dragged out over two episodes. You look at the RANGE RIDER episodes and they were well worthy of two parts, it kept going throughout both episodes and was one of the best stories they had, plus the 4 guys were extra awesome in this. After my dad had first seen the RANGE RIDER episodes I got the ins and outs of the real Range Rider! 😀

I wouldn't mind seeing an episode or two of the real RANGE RIDER!

I rewatched this one yesterday - not a fantastic ep, but it has some good moments. I can see why it was a double episode, it looked like they had a much bigger budget. I don't know if they were actually on location somewhere, or if it was all filmed on a backlot at Universal, but it certainly looked good! Also the fights and explosions just all seemed more substantial than in a normal episode. I'm pleased that Tawnia got a proper send off. I didn't warm to her at all, just because she never seemed to do anything useful in any of the episodes she was in, she was just... there! However, it was good they finished her story, considering Amy wasn't given the same respect - her character deserved so much more, despite whatever was going on behind the scenes. I love that they just suddenly introduced her fiance (Barry Van d**e! I wonder if he and Dirk ever talked about Galactica 1980?? ) and explained her sudden romance by saying the team were away when it was all happening. It's fun to see Face and Hannibal's very different reactions to it in the opening scene - Face seems interested (or just bothered) by the details, but Hannibal clearly doesn't care, he just wants to get his hands on the bad guy! The story itself is a bit convoluted, especially with the daughter of the original bad guy (who turns into a good guy) double crossing the team and then double-double crossing the other baddies (is that right? I was confused!) Also the random Nazis showing up was odd - together with the 'lost city' idea I assume they were trying to invoke an Indiana Jones type atmosphere considering Tawnia's fiance was an archaeologist...? Visually these eps are fun too. The team look quite different, just by wearing different outfits and actually getting dirty and sweaty for a change made it feel like they were on more of an adventure than normal. And Face's 80's style very short shorts were fantastic! Also loved seeing Murdock back in control of a helicopter - he hadn't done any flying for several episodes prior to this one which is a shame. The wedding is quite fun - I like how Hannibal not only gives Tawnia away, but made a point of saying 'her mother and I do'. And I love BAs face when they finally kiss. He's so shy and awkward when it comes to romance, even other people's!

I think that Face, once it was clear to him that Tawnia was not going to get romantic with him, may have always felt a bit protective of Tawnia. I think he does care about her (as a friend) and didn't want her ending up in a bad marriage. His discussion with the lady (who was the daughter of the bad-guy-turned-good-guy) kind of indicated that a bit, too.

We watched this last night. My wife and I were not looking forward to it as we don't have fond memories of it. My oldest watched for a bit with us, but the younger two were bored and ran off. Not as bad as I was thinking, although for being an SJC and Lupo script, not what I would expect. I love the parts about Hannibal and Face on the Aquamaniac set. It cracked me up with Hannibal talking about the feelings of the monster and Face as the dialogue coach. (I wonder if that director ever caught old Luke? ) My wife did not like how fast the other guy got dressed after Hannibal took off the costume. She didn't think it was possible. I love how Face was like "I'll drive." It was nice to know that Tawnia had a boyfriend, although it felt forced with the medals and everything. My wife thought it was super cliche to marry the son of the newspaper owner where she worked. (I like how Face looked up and saw it was the coffin. And Hannibal asks why would anyone call himself that and Face retorts with probably the same reason someone would call himself Hannibal. It sounds like in that scene, Hannibal admits that he might have come up with the name himself). The VA breakout and the scene between Hannibal and B.A. about flying was great. They seemed to have a great time with both scenes. My wife got tired of the director stuff pretty quick, although she laughed at parts. The bar scene was reminiscent of the pilot to me, but I liked how Hannibal took the big guy outside and beat him up. My wife just rolled her eyes when that same guy tried to jump the truck and came nowhere near the boat. El Cajon is fun and I like him better here than in the pilot. Bobbie Cardena was a great strong character. "I like this girl, Hannibal!" The shotgun in the leg trick got old fast, especially after the third time. How did the team let Bobbie take their firing pins? Hannibal is usually not that gullible. And how did she get to all of the ones on their person? I could see the boat, but how did she get the one from Hannibal? Although it makes me wonder if it wasn't part of his plan after he told them on the barge that they weren't finished with the old plan yet. My wife noticed that you could see right up Face's shorts when he was tied up. She also realized that it would take TONS of hairspray to keep Tawnia's hair like that. The breakout scene was fun with Face fighting and then Murdock critiquing him. That always gets a laugh from me. Face was pretty trusting of Bobbie coming back to help. I'm not sure if he read her right or just didn't care at that point. I like finding lost cities and such, but this was just too corny. I don't mind the feat of strength, but it would be nice sometimes if it wasn't always Murdock who knows the random information. To me, Face should be just as informed on some things because of his scams. It would be nice to see a trade off. And why not push it back over the arrow since they knew that Doyle was behind them? The montage scene was fun and I liked how they took the bad guys down. My wife was not convinced that the trees would throw people that far when they got hit with the branches, but it was fun. The Nazis were just boring to me. And did they tear the reactor down after? Also, how did Hannibal get to the helicopter where Ritterman was escaping? He had just stepped off the barge when Ritterman made the chopper. I can see Murdock getting there, but Hannibal seemed forced. And it was a VERY small chopper scene. The wedding scene was fun and the negotiations about the treasures. My wife rolled her eyes at it, but it was in good fun. I like Hannibal and Face realizing that it could be years. One thing I liked was Hannibal's reference to Vietnam when he talks about there are things his team has seen in another time, another jungle. I like the subtle reminders that these guys have been through the ringer and survived. I think that goes to Bobbie's references to Face and how he is not really a playboy. I liked that. It was a nice change of pace for Face's character. Again, not my favorite, but not as bad as I recall either.

It sounds like in that scene, Hannibal admits that he might have come up with the name himself). I remember were were talking in another thread about this scene. I see it as Face making a friendly dig at Hannibal for choosing that name for himself nad Hannibal's reaction as confirmation. I wouldn't be surprised if it was always part of Hannibal's plan, or at least one variation of his plan because I think he's always prepared to adapt his plan because he knows things might change. I think he's usually thought through a lot of the possibilities and is ready for them. I agree. When they do mention the war it's often only a brief mention, but that makes it more poignant somehow. They don't dwell on it, not because they find it easy to just dismiss what they went through, but because there are too many painful memories. They all seem to have chosen to deal with it by creating exaggerated personalities.

I also can get kind of bored with this one, but it still has a lot of good stuff in it that I enjoy.
I agree.
Was the director one of the tax accountants after Old Luke? I don't think I've ever even realized that before!
Didn't Hannibal and/or Face also sort of question Tawnia being engaged to the son of the newspaper owner?
Funny how Tawnia can stay so beautiful and perfect-looking even in the hot, humid jungle. I think she also may be wearing a white top which never seems to get a speck of dirt on it....
I agree that a lot of this is corny, but I think they may have been capitalizing on popularity of things like INDIANA JONES.
I always sort of hate the whole Nazi thing....it seems to be thrown in. I much prefer the "former Nazi" angle in MONSTER than in this episode....in fact, I would rather have had MONSTER be a two-parter than this one. That could have been loads of fun as a two-parter!
To me, this is one of the highlights of an otherwise not-so-favorite episode.

I think it is more realistic that they don't talk about the war all the time. From what I know of veterans of wars, especially those who actually saw serious combat, they don't sit around talking about it that often, although I think they might talk about it a bit more if they are gathered with other veterans. I think that is because they know that only those who have actually been through something like that can really relate to it. And also maybe because it is painful and they don't want to constantly think about it.

The director was one of the guys after Old Luke in CURTAIN CALL. Hannibal and Face do make a dig at Tawnia about marrying the newspaper owner's son. Tawnia does sweat at least. Although my wife wondered if she really brought the top she got married in when she was searching for Brian. To me, the thing that saves this one from the writing perspective is the interaction between the team members. In those moments, it's definitely an SJC and/or Lupo script. "We're not finished with the old plan yet."

I don't think I had thought about that top she got married in.....maybe it was loaned to her by one of the people they helped?
