I was talking to Amy about this book the other day. It's from 1984 and T ostensibly wrote it himself (it sounds like his voice.) Hard to get hold of now but I got it through the library. I hadn't realized what a hard life he really had. He was extremely poor when he was a kid and tried to get out of poverty through sports and later, the military. I've heard about other kids who grew up poor (like Dr. Ben Carson) and later became very successful. T's story seems like equal parts hard work and good luck. Of course there's very little in it about TAT (only a few pages, and then only at the very end.) Most of it is about his early life and his career as a bodyguard for people like Leon Spinks. My favorite quote in there was from Stallone when they were working on ROCKY III: "You don't tell Mr. T how to act, you just unleash him on the world."

I had no idea he'd written one.
I guess it's out of print now...

I've got it. It was interesting but at the same time I'd have rather read more about his time on The A team I found I have the same problem with Dirk's books. I wish Dwight would write a book.

I guess, though, the fact that they don't write so much about their time on TAT is an indication that for them, it is not the most important thing about their lives.

Yeah but I'm used to autobiographies including some information from their work, normally their best known work. It'd be kinda like when Michael Jackson wrote his book if he'd left all his work on "Thriller" out and instead just written about his diet or childhood.

I've got Dirk's book Kamikaze Cowboy, and it made me feel a bit nauseous as he went through a graphic account of... well... To be honest, I did feel sick.

I can't read Kamikaze Cowboy. I did manage to get through AND THEN WE WENT FISHING, but even that was a bit much in some places. Ok, a lot of places.
