I just watched this episode....love it! A definite 10 from me! One thing I noticed tonight is that the team has already moved Murdock into the cabin when the bad guys are just being rounded up by the police....did it take the local police that long to get to the site where Murdock was shot?
I really don't have much, if anything, negative to say about this episode. Great flashback episode with plenty of new stuff. I guess the only thing that I kind of would like to be different would be if they actually mentioned Amy or showed her in some of the flashbacks. There was a brief glimpse of her in the scene from TILL DEATH DO WE PART but otherwise, they managed to block her out of all flashbacks. I suspect that was so they didn't have to pay Melinda Culea any royalties or something like that.

I've always thought it was one of the best episodes, too. But I kind of don't like clip shows. I mean, the start, the in-betweens, and the end scenes are some of the best in the series. I love when Murdock messes with Decker at the end. However, I get bored seeing the clips.
I guess maybe in the 80s, VCRs were even rather new, and you didn't get to see episodes over again so quickly. So it was really important to have clip shows. For the production company (to save money producing new scenes, reuse the old) and to incite nostalgia maybe? I don't know.

I actually really like the clips in this episode, although yes, with the advent of VCRs and DVDs, etc. I suppose it is rather redundant. But I think this is one of the best clip shows that I've seen. I guess the powers-that-be felt this was a fitting way to send a season. Surely they knew the show would be back for a third season, though, since it was such a big success still in season 2, right? Did they really think this could be the "final curtain call"?

No way. It was so popular at this point. There is no way it was going to be the last episode. I think they were trying to fool the audience. The commercials probably showed Murdock getting shot, and they wanted the viewers to go crazy because he was such a big draw. Tune in! Will it be H.M. Murdock's Curtain Call?!?!

I'm also surprised at how much chewing tobacco Face put in his mouth when he was pretending to be Bearclaw. That's disgusting. Then he spat on their floor. He really commits to a 'character' for a scam.

I always love it how the two guys wave their hands as if to say "no problem." I started a fanfic script where those two guys are the clients but I was never able to finish it.

Did you see what their truck looked like? I love that the same colour scheme of the van is used over and over again.

Do you think that's the same truck that's parked outside of the gas station when the bounty hunters kidnap Murdock in BOUNTY?

I don't remember that one. Of course, I try not to watch BOUNTY too often.

Well, you can watch it pre-Kelly. Actually, she's not really in it all that much, I don't think. Or at least not until quite a way into the episode. The truck is near the beginning, and you see it as BA is freaking out about his van. Of course, we all know it's really Murdock he's concerned about, right?

Well having watched this episode last night, the main thing that struck me was that there were some rather shoddy first aid practices going on. That scene in the van when Murdock's just been shot - Face is particularly useless in not putting any pressure on the wound whatsoever. He just sort of 'fidgets' with it. (Although it was gratifying that Murdock let Face do whatever it was he was doing, whereas when Tawnia tried to reach over - maybe to put pressure on the wound? - Murdock swatted her away).
At least Hannibal redeemed the situation by correctly recognising that fabric in the wound would cause it to suppurate and get infected, and that they had to remove it. I'm assuming he also gave Murdock some antibiotics and paracetamol at some point from the first aid kit Face lifted. Although it probably didn't do the healing process much good when Murdock was in the straight jacket at the end. If the bullet was lodged in muscle, then I'm guessing it could be quite achy to have your shoulder pulled back like that...(Although perhaps that scene was a while after he got shot...)
It's also heartening that first aid got better by the time of Without Reservations, with regards to the whole putting pressure on the wound, elevating the feet, keeping the patient warm.
RE Face and the tobacco - yeah, I also thought it was impressive how much he stuffed in his mouth. I had no idea what that stuff was at first, i thought it was chocolate or something. (Actually, I didn't realise it was Face when he fell through the door onto those two nitwits, I thought it was one of the bad guys from the first scene. Then I was like, "Whoa, Face has grown some impressive stubble very quickly!" And then, "Where did he get those dungarees from? Only BA wears dungarees. Is he wearing BA's dungarees??")

Oh, that's funny that you didn't recognize it as Face initially. I don't know how he got the stubble....some of Hannibal's makeup?

I love this one. I love seeing how much they all care about Murdock, especially B.A. Poor B.A’s really worried. It’s nice seeing him look after him. I especially like Face’s flashbacks, thinking about the scams they’ve done together. He looks heartbroken at the thought of Murdock not making it. I’m surprised Hannibal never made any reference about Murdock taking a bullet for him. A scene between Murdock & Hannibal, with Hannibal thanking him for what he did or something would’ve been a nice touch. They had to think up something extra extraordinary to escape Decker this time, having to get him to hospital and escape themselves. Using Face as the helper getting Murdock out was a genius idea, I love the ending of their, with Decker trying to get something out of Murdock and getting nowhere! He knows they break him out, but with o proof he can’t do anything about it! 😀. The song playing over while showing Murdock & B.A is so lovely, then B.A smiling at the end. Love it.
Does anybody know what that song is playing at the end, about friends?

I think we previously had a discussion on this forum about Murdock taking the bullet for Hannibal but not being thanked by Hannibal. My thought on that is that, throughout this episode, Hannibal is never sappy. I think he's a soldier, and he himself would take a bullet for any other soldier. It's just what soldiers do and they don't need to be thanked for it. It's their duty.
Do you think the song "They Say that Opposites Attract" (or whatever you want to call it) may have been written specifically for this episode?
