I watched this one tonight. I also only give it a 4 on the Sidney scale. So far, season 3 is not doing too well with my Sidney scale ratings. I do not like Murdock's "secret weapon" stuff in this one. And I don't know why Face acts so strange when he is pretending to be the fire inspector. I think he would have been much more believeable if he were just acting more like himself. One thing I do like is when Face contemplates taking the money from the safe, but hey, he's honest and puts it back into the safe!
Sidney, I would be interested to get your take on Hannibal in this episode? Is he misogynistic towards Annie? I don't like it when he does not let her go to fight the fire, but then again, he also makes the other fireman stay behind. And I do think that fire may have been set by the bad guys just to lure the team (and maybe Annie and the other fireman) into their clutches. I do believe they said it was a fire in a field.
Something that bothers me about this one is that nobody actually makes sure the people in the courthouse are okay. The team goes chasing off after the bad guys, leaving no fire truck there at the courthouse to actually fight the fire.

We just watched this one last night. I liked it! But not as much as others. Mainly cause I didn't understand the plot. I felt well thick, especially as this is supposed to be a children's show Am finding it hard to quantify episodes, so I yeah, I see the need for the Sidney scale. Is it on this forum somewhere? And I don't know why Face acts so strange when he is pretending to be the fire inspector. Yeah he acts really camp! I wonder if he and Murdock use a character "cootie catcher" /"fortune teller" before running a scam - I can't remember what we call them in England, but they're the paper origami toys that children make, it goes "pick a number", then "pick a colour". I can imagine murdock and Face playing with it before each scam to help them choose their characters, and for this episode Murdock got "Northern Irish fireman" and Face got "effeminate fire chief inspector".
One thing I do like is when Face contemplates taking the money from the safe, but hey, he's honest and puts it back into the safe! He does that in WITHOUT RESERVATIONS too, with the guy's wallet in the bathroom. He has an interesting moral code. My other impressions: So Face tells Hannibal that he'll be done in 1 hour (to crack the safe and photo the documents), but it didn't seem to take that long. So i thought, maybe Face just wanted some downtime - I liked how he came prepared, bringing the headlight and the newspaper. So maybe he was planning on having some time alone. No wonder, with the BA/Murdock secret weapons antics in the earlier scene. THEN I wondered - he's reading the newspaper in the crate. Maybe this harks back to murdock telling him during the fire chief scam that the stocks were up (or something about the stock market), so I thought maybe Face wants some time alone to read the newspaper and check out the stocks. Loved how BA and Hannibal pretended to look so tired and heartsick about how heavy the safe was, especially when it didn't fit. That was pretty funny. Cool that BA and Face automatically know how to drive a fire engine. I mean, I can drive and all, but I don't think that necessarily translates into driving fire engines. Loved the bit where Murdock and Face are supposed to be getting some sleep in the fire station, and then BA comes along - it seemed to me that this was the kind of thing they did back in Vietnam, in the barracks, like how they would behave. Also LOVED Face listening to Rubenstein's Brahms - he does seem to be a bit pretentious about it, either doing it to impress the others, or to store up the knowledge for some future scam or chick bait - because he doesn't usually listen to classical music. In DEADLY MANOEUVRES wasn't he listening to Blondie in the 'vette? And then when Murdock, brilliantly and off-the-cuff says that he prefers the Ashkenazy version, Face looks a bit put out and takes off his headphones. Like, why even bother when Murdock can "out-culture" him without even trying? The Hannibal / female fire chief chat up lines were a bit cringeworthy. But yay for women fire chief. I laughed a lot when Murdock sprayed BA with the secret weapon and then screamed when BA was coming after him. I love that kind of slapstick stuff. I got sprayed in the face with a fire extinguisher once when i was little and it was quite memorable. The pressure really gets you. Next episode is TIMBER. It seems like season 3 may be full of lots of manual labour episodes.

I like your theories about Face just wanting some down time to read about the stock market!
Here's the Sidney scale: 10: Beyond Excellent 8 - 9: Excellent 6 - 7: Very Good - entertaining, and can watch again 5: Good 4: Okay 3: Of limited quality 1 - 2: Bottom of the barrel in terms of A-Team episodes

Ok great thanks amyk, that's helpful. Thanks to Sidney too for providing this original scale! I will endeavour to use it henceforth.
Yeah I think Face is sneaky... he would even scam Hannibal so he can have a little R&R chilling out in the crate checking out his stocks and shares....

Oops, i wrote earlier that Face was listening to Blondie in Deadly manoeuvres, but I just realised I got that wrong, it was incident at crystal lake I think...in any case, one of the later season 3 episodes that I've skimmed through on account of some good Face scenes.

Yeah, it was CRYSTAL LAKE where Face was listening to "One Way or Another." Love that episode!

CRYSTAL LAKE is one of the best episodes in the series. This one... Not so much. Someone posted recently that Hannibal had more charisma with this female lead than Maggie. I really couldn't disagree more. He did have chemistry with her, but it wasn't feasible at all. It was just strange that a young, beautiful girl was the fire chief, and she was supposed to be strong and empowered, but overall she still came across feeble and all talk. She was kind of a hypocrite. (Although I love Stepfanie Kramer. I LOVED her on Hunter. Hunter was one of my favourite shows growing up.)

I also don't really feel chemistry between Hannibal and the fire chief.

It's just cool that she is a fire chief in charge and he's paired with her. So it becomes a pattern. He likes strong women and treats the eye candy like they're disposable.
You asked about misogyny. Hannibal's character is always misogynistic. He's nice to the fire chief, but only because she's beautiful and he wants to kiss her. Does he respect her and her abilities? No. Does he belittle her? That's subjective. (I'd say yes.) Does he objectify her? Yes. Does he discriminate against her because of her sex? Yes.
He does find strong women attractive though. As I mentioned before. He maybe likes to 'break' them. Telling this one what to do and taking over her fire house and making her want him; throwing Maggie into the closet and then making her beg for him in DEADLY MANEUVERS... He breaks them like wild horses.

I watched this one this afternoon and enjoyed just as much as the first time seeing it back when i was a child.. Annie is also nice on the eye and has always been one of my 'team' favourites I like BA showing off his strength bending the metal pole behind his neck but was it foam or plastic??
Also one of the background members of Annie's staff at the fire station without a speaking scene is also the same guy who played fake Face in the other episode from this season 'Showdown', I think this actor also appeared in other episodes as well and im sure is the stunt double used for Face throughout the series

I've never noticed that about the background fireman of Annie's staff being the SHOWDOWN Face (and Face's stunt double)! Hope I remember to look for that the next time around when I watch this episode. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes I often spot background stuff while watching the episodes but it's definitely the same guy who played fake Face in showdown hence Dirk's stunt double also
I suppose when they made shows like this they never imagined people chatting about every detail on forums years later so adding the same background actor here and there nobody would notice 😁

How do you create an episode where the bad guys are rival firefighters and not include an ax fight.

Although i love this episode it makes me laugh because no fire company would expect civilians to help them fight a blaze 🤔 but I suppose if your a member of The A Team anything is possible for you 😁

The A-TEAM magically can become professionals in any career they choose, week by week.....this week, firefighting with absolutely no training....another week, lumberjacks, again with absolutely no training....why didn't we ever get to see them become astronauts and save NASA???
