Okay, are those or are those not the same callout tones used in Emergency! ? They kind of sound like it, but I compared to a clip from that show and they seem like they're not quite the same pitch... but I've seen other places where people say they are. (Callout sequence isn't quite the same, but, it's also not the same time period, and IIRC, these guys aren't L.A. County, right?)
As well as the fact that not only are the bad guys acting like weenies, but they're literally expecting the county fire department to just let places burn. WOW.
Cool that BA and Face automatically know how to drive a fire engine. I mean, I can drive and all, but I don't think that necessarily translates into driving fire engines.
The Hannibal / female fire chief chat up lines were a bit cringeworthy. But yay for women fire chief.
I love her. I'm making a collection of all the badass women on this show that I like, and she's on the list.
I was just impressed that Hannibal is going for a woman who isn't super-young, hot, and useless for once... him hooking up with this one is up there with him and Maggie Sullivan.
Oh. Now I want this.
Oh yeah. Definitely. Decker's a piece of work. But oddly enough, I always want to like him. As in, I wish they had written him as a good guy somehow (no, I have no idea how). There's just something about him; he seems like such a complete badass (as opposed to being a cheesy dorky goon like the Lynch and the other Army guys) and it would be great if instead Lance LeGault had played some kind of good-guy character. (Hell, I'd take serious-badass sidekick over Frankie, too. Poor Frankie.)
Why did the bad guys need a whole fire contract just so they could smuggle one guy??
Sidney, I would be interested to get your take on Hannibal in this episode? Is he misogynistic towards Annie? I don't like it when he does not let her go to fight the fire, but then again, he also makes the other fireman stay behind. And I do think that fire may have been set by the bad guys just to lure the team (and maybe Annie and the other fireman) into their clutches. I do believe they said it was a fire in a field.
Oh, hell yes. After all of his going on about how no, he doesn't think she can't do her job just because she's a woman... and harping on it... as if *she* is in the wrong (she who likely has been told her her whole career that she can't do her job just because she's a woman)... and at least twice in this episode he literally tells her how to do her job. She's a fire captain-- which means she's been doing this job long enough and well enough to earn that role-- and he's a guy who's never worn turnout gear in his life, and he's telling her how to fight fires. (Hey! Hannibal invented mansplaining!)
(And who would let "civilians" go along on a firefighting run? If that's not dangerous AF, I don't know what is. {and liability city, but this was the 80s, so less of a concern.} )
Something that bothers me about this one is that nobody actually makes sure the people in the courthouse are okay. The team goes chasing off after the bad guys, leaving no fire truck there at the courthouse to actually fight the fire.

I'm willing to believe B.A. might've driven heavy trucks in the Army.
But, these guys are often like that. Does it fly? Murdock can fly it. Plus figure out in about three seconds how to operate cranes, etc.

How do you create an episode where the bad guys are rival firefighters and not include an ax fight.
I've come to realise that I really, really don't like Decker. I know we're not supposed to 'like' him because he's basically the enemy of our heroes, but I think he goes way beyond just wanting to recapture The A Team just because he believes they are criminals who broke the law and therefore should face justice. With Decker, you get the feeling his moral code is severely warped and he would do anything to capture them and I find that side of his character really disturbing.
I don't remember thinking this when I was watching the show originally, or when I've watched various episodes in the years since. I guess when I was 10/11/12 years old I was just cheering for Hannibal and the team and I loved it every time they outwitted Decker and escaped from his clutches. It's only when I've been rewatching recently that I've realised Decker wasn't simply representing the law and therefore chasing the team because they were fugitives, he actually has a really dangerous side and I don't think he cares about bringing them to justice.
When Decker is first given the assigment it's made clear to him that the reason he has the the job is because the army know he doesn't care about following the rules and they're prepared to overlook anything he does as long as he gets The A Team. To me that sounds like the military wouldn't even care if Decker killed them and it all feels really wrong to me.
I think the line in RANGE RIDER when Hannibal explains that Decker thought nothing of blowing up hospitals during the war really sets the tone for his character, especially because you can see Hannibal finds this absolutely abhorrent - and rightly so, of course. I don't think Decker would care if innocent people got hurt while he was recapturing the team, he just wanted to get the job done - at any cost - because he craved the self satisfaction of being able to achieve what so many others before him had failed to do.
