I just finished this one a short while ago. I give it a 5 on the Sidney scale. If I were ranking only the first half or so, I think I would go quite a bit higher, as I love all the stuff when the bad guys think the team is Insane Wayne's bunch. But after they learn the truth, I think the episode loses something. One thing I don't remember ever noticing before is that when they are at the diner (near the beginning), and when one of Mr. Kincaid's henchmen says that the food is greasy, BA pushes his bowl away from him. This is when the camera is not actually on him, so you only see his hands (and I'm not sure it is really even Mr. T in this part, as I think they may have filmed some of it with a stand-in).

This is probably my favorite episode of the series despite the wasted potential. Wayne and his crew show up way too late in the episode, which is unfortunate because:
A. I wanted to see some vehicular combat between the van and that tank thing Wayne drives,
B. When the final battle happens, despite all their hype as threats, Wayne and his crew are effortlessly defeated. I'd have liked the fight between Hannibal and Wayne to be a little more "showy." Have Wayne get some punches in, instead of going down after a knee to the gut. However, they did have the upper hand during the initial standoff, which is rare for villains in the series.
I think that if they had been introduced sooner, the finale would've been better. Still, a great episode.

Bert, welcome to the forum! I have to say that I never really consider this one in my top echelon as a favorite. I might have to give it more attention the next time through just to see what I miss that you see.

There's like a five-way tie. Still, plenty of great scenes in this one, lots of action, and Kincaid just has the worst luck when it comes to his money.

Hi Bert! I would have enjoyed it if the team continued to pretend to be Insane Wayne and his goons for a while longer. I thought that was funny. Like maybe they could be pretending to be them and then the real Insane Wayne shows up. I also wish that BA had some action with Kincaid in character as one of the members of the Insane Wayne bunch.

Hey-o. I think they stopped impersonating him at just the right time, although that definitely would've been a good time for the real Insane Wayne to appear. I certainly can't see BA impersonating one of them though; it's not really his style.

Well, you may be right about that....BA would not even wear any kind of costume in SHOWDOWN! Still, he has participated in scams and done fine with that (thinking of the one in BOUNTY and the one he did all by himself in WHEEL OF FORTUNE), so maybe he could pretend to be one of Insane Wayne's bunch.
I also would have kind of liked to see the girl's mother, who apparently Kincaid was giving drugs to and dominating. I guess they can't fit everything into the short time they have, but maybe would have liked to had the chance to see her doing well and supporting Bobby and her daughter at the end, along with Bobby's uncle.
While this is not one of my favorite episodes, it does have a lot of stuff I enjoy - like Murdock trying to prepare for his psych test and Hannibal and Murdock especially are so great when they are in character as Insane Wayne and whoever Murdock plays. I also do like the radiation scam that Face and Murdock pull off to delay Insane Wayne's arrival.

I rewatched this one yesterday. I'd previously thought it wasn't a great ep, but rewatching it reminded me that it's actually quite good. I really liked the idea of Murdock trying to get his diagnosis downgraded. I've always thought that he deliberately exaggerates his 'craziness', partly because he wants to stay at the hospital. I suppose he no longer feels safe living there if one of his fellow patients has become so violent. It's interesting that he's struggling so hard with the inkblots. It doesn't seem like he's faking it, there would be no reason to with just Face and the others in the van and considering he really wants to pass the tests. As you've said before, it's a shame the team didn't pretend to be Insane Wayne and his gang for longer, at least until the real gang showed up. It might have been fun to see the moment Kincaid realised he had been tricked. I love the idea that Insane Wayne advertises his services in a magazine! I really love Face and Murdock's scam with the radiation leak - they play it kind of straight which is different to most of their scams where they tend to play OTT characters with exaggerated accents, or slightly bizarre mannerisms! The scene when Hannibal and the others see Bobby's father's grave for the first time is really poignant. They, understandably, have such deep respect for fellow veterans and you can see how they're suddenly even more determined to win against Kincaid. It's very moving that Bobby tries so hard to keep the land and the well going all on his own, it might have been interesting to have Bobby's uncle arrive sooner in the episode though as he may have had some different ideas about what was best for Bobby. I agree with you, Amy, that it would have given more weight to the story if there was a scene with Kincaid's wife showing the way he was treating her and then to have shown that she was recovering at the end of the episode, but that level of abuse might have been a bit too heavy for this show.

Interesting idea to have Bobby's uncle arrive sooner and I wonder if he had, how things would have played out. Would he have helped the team? Was he also a veteran?
