Ed Lauter, who plays the sheriff in BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK, and also Dougie Kyle in DEADLY MANEUVERS, was in a movie that my husband and I watched on Memorial Day - FAMILY PLOT. It's the last movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock, I believe. Anyway, he plays a bad guy in that movie and also ends up dying in it (due to his own evil intentions and consequences of his actions).

He was also in Death Wish 3, in which he plays a cop in a gang-infested town and basically hires Charles Bronson to wipe out all the bad guys. It has a body count of like fifty quadrillion and the main bad guy gets blown up with a rocket launcher, it's awesome.

I enjoyed his appearances in PSYCH and THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN as well.

It is just balls-to-the-wall carnage after the first ten minutes, and like the first thing Bronson does in the eleventh is rig a trap to his neighbor's window so that anyone who breaks into their apartment gets hit in the face by a plank of wood. There's another scene, much later in the film, where an old guy fends off some punks with a machine gun, is hospitalized, and then tells Bronson where he can get another machine gun. Everyone needs to watch this movie at least ten times.

I just saw Ed Lauter in an episode of THE X-FILES. It is an episode called SPACE and he played a Colonel working for NASA who had been an astronaut in the 1970s and was somehow "possessed" (or something) by an alien, I think when he was doing a spacewalk. The episode didn't make tons of sense to me but anyway, I'm always happy to see Ed Lauter in something.
