So i found Leverage and I just finished watching episode 1.
I'm having a hard time liking the leader-Hannibal character. He was in a movie I saw, like, twenty years ago where he tried to date a young Natalie Portman and was really creepy. I don't know the other actors, except for the fighter handsome guy. He was in Angel. I loved him in Angel. He played the bad guy lawyer that turns into a good guy.
I like the girl being the insane one. She doesn't really do anything crazy in episode 1 though, so I'm hoping she actually does something crazy in episode 2.
I also really like that there's two girls on the team. The other girl, the one that is romantic with creepy-leader-Hannibal character, she's the scammer like Face! So Face and Murdock are both girls in Leverage?
There were some parts in the story that reminded me of Oceans 11.
When Creepy-Leader-Hannibal guy said he was the one with the plan, I was like, wow... how were they not sued?
Insane girl wore converse like Murdock.
Handsome fighter guy flirted to do a scam.
I do see lots of similarities. I'll definitely watch another episode.

I just watched episode 2. The one girl is a bad actress auditioning for real roles like Hannibal.
Still waiting for the insane girl to do anything crazy whatsoever. I read online that there's 5 seasons. Please tell me that sometime in five seasons she does something crazy.
Although... That makes me think of a thread topic for the ATeam forum...

Okay, last one before I go to bed. Looks like they have a Decker with Creepy-Leader-Hannibal's nemesis from the insurance company.
Insane girl is afraid of horses. Still not crazy.
Last episode reminded me of WATER WATER EVERYWHERE, and this one reminded me of CHURCH. Fighter guy's Leslie was more likable than Leslie. Of course, I'm the only person in the world that doesn't like Leslie.

Who is the leader of the team?
My wife just told me they rebooted the series with a new lead. If it's not Timothy Hutton, you are watching the reboot/sequel

Timothy Hutton is the leader guy. He starred in BEAUTIFUL GIRLS in the 90s. He was an old man who wanted to date with preteen Natalie Portman in the movie. It stuck with me as disturbing even though it was just a part. I just didn't stomach his performance. Maybe he's an amazing actor because I believed his creepiness.
Interestingly enough, I just read an article when I was looking up the movie, and he was accused of sexually assaulting a 14 year old and paid a financial settlement to make it go away. His creep-factor was his real character!
I watched another episode. They just saved a church by faking a miracle. That one doesn't remind me of an A-Team episode.
I do enjoy the show. I'm just making conversation. Their team is good. The insane one, the fighter, the computer guy, and the actress are all good characters.
You know what I wish though? I wish they would have had a little more showing how they are becoming close. In episode 3, the ONLY CHURCH IN TOWN-like episode with the horses and the Leslie-like character had the Leslie-like character say that he had a family now. But it's episode 3. I still don't feel that bond and loyalty that the A-Team had for one another right from the start. You actually believed that the A-Team were together for ten years and in Nam together prior to the show. The leverage team is called a family too soon. They just met, really. Show some more bonding before you start referring to them as a 'family'. Besides! They were all solo thieves before they joined forces. You'd think it would be hard to be a family so soon. They were only motivated by money...

Okay, just watched episode 6. I think that one is my favourite so far. Finally, the insane girl did something insane! She was supposed to be flirting with a guy for the case and ended up stabbing him with a fork. I laughed out loud. It was completely unexpected.
In this one they use a fake movie production to help them scam the bad guy. How A-Team is that?

I was just watching the next episode - a BEAST-type storyline where they were on a plane.
The computer guy just said: Man, I love it when a plan comes together!
They are very cognizant of their stealing from the A-Team!

Love that you're posting about the episodes as you go through them I kinda want to re-watch them now. I also haven't seen the Leverage reboot yet so I should get on that. I totally agree about Parker, it has always bugged me a little that Parker doesn't seem to act 'crazy' enough. She does get some good moments, like the fork-stabbing incident, that you mentioned. But yeah, overall, she could do with more crazy moments to prove that she deserves the reputation of 'crazy'. But I mean, I'm comparing her to MURDOCK and that's a high standard to meet, so I shouldn't really hold it against her XD That movie with Natalie Portman sounds like a terrible first impression of Timothy Hutton, yikes. You've got a good point about how they start calling themselves a family too soon. They do get many touching moments later on that really prove it, but yeah at that point in the show I think the writers were rushing it a little. Wish they'd given it a bit more build-up. Still, one thing I love about the show are the many 'family' moments, so at least they get that part right in the end.

I'm on Season 2 now, and lo and behold there is a boxer who just had his water drugged during a match. (CHAMP!) So many episodes similar to A-Team episodes. I'm finding it fun to compare and contrast. Their Hannibal-leader-guy is a drunk though. I find that aspect interesting. I was, like, what if Hannibal was an alcoholic (in the show as well as in real life)? What kind of change would that bring to the feel of the show? It would be nice to have a little less perfection with the A-Team. Give them some intrinsic barriers that they have to get past.
I do like their Fighter dude. He's so cute. I wish he had a better hairstyle though.
I also think these life-long, independent thieves accept the Hannibal=Leader-Guy's authority too easily. Some more struggle within the theme would have been a good idea, or at least give the narrative that it's a long time since the first job together.
Although, there is a time-line discrepancy. In one of the later episodes in Season One, the computer tech guy asks the fighter guy if he's ever been married/in love. And he talks about the girl. The girl in the earlier episode with the horses!!!! But it was like she had never been mentioned before. Meanwhile it was several episodes earlier! I don't know if the script was written earlier and moved in production, or if production was rearranged before airing... But that was definitely a timeline problem.

I just finished Season 2. And that's it. That's all I can access. I'm so frustrated. Apparently there are five seasons and a reboot, and I can't access any of it. It's not available in my location.
I was feeling kind of guilty for enjoying it though, so I'm glad I can't watch anymore.
I loved Elliot, Parker, Sophie, and Hardison. I loved Sterling (their Decker). I even like Tara (Star Trek's 7of9).
But Nate turns my stomach. It was reading the article about him sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl. Every time a young female client hugged him to thank him, I literally felt sick. Like the daughter of the guy whose bank was all corrupt and was in a car accident or the daughter of the guy who owned the irish bar... I felt like they didn't want to hug him. I felt it was creepy. It was sickening (in a bad way).
I wonder if he isn't returning for the reboot because of the sexual assault. It didn't go to court; he settled it out of court.
I got frustrated, too, because his PR was demanding to know why the victim waited so many years (30) to bring it forward and accused her of just wanting to get money from him.

I got access to the third season. Another character just said 'I love it when a plan comes together.' This is the second time a character said this line in the series. (I'm on Season 3. There could be more.) I think it's so strange that they've worked that into the script twice. It obv proves that they are aware of their A-Team similarities.
Season 3 has introduced a Stockwell character, oddly enough. I found that interesting. She's pulling strings behind the scenes and blackmailing them to do work for her.

Sorry to hear you can't access anything beyond Season 2. That's really frustrating! Sterling was awesome, wasn't he? A great villain. I loved Tara's appearance too, she was great as 7 of 9 and did a nice job in this show too.

There's no right or wrong way to behave when you're a sexual assault victim.
You doubt her because of how we as a society are trained to blame and doubt the victim.

I disagree. Maybe I'm biased because I know sexual assault victims who would never describe their trauma that way, sure. That might be making me incorrectly assume that all victims are alike, so you're right on that point.
But to be honest, I find it hurtful that you would suggest that I'm blaming the victim, after I just mentioned that I have loved ones who have been assaulted. I would NEVER blame or doubt the victim by default. I might be biased for other reasons, but not for that one.
I think perhaps this is too sensitive of a topic to be discussing on the internet, so I'm going to duck out of this conversation now. Agree to disagree.
At some point I'll probably come back and erase my posts on this topic to avoid triggering other people who wander by, so don't be surprised if my posts here show up blank or shortened later on.
Thanks for discussing.
