Hm... might be interesting to see one on Amy and how she gets on in Jakarta. Maybe even with the Army still on her tail somehow (subplot), or she meets someone there with a job for the team so they can have a cameo. I like Amyk's idea of her doing investigative stories, etc. After all, I figure you can take the girl off the team but you can't take the team out of the girl-- I'm sure getting into scrapes would be a hard habit for her to drop, even if she had to leave the team, and now she has experience in this kind of thing. They could maybe even bring in Tawnia from time to time (I find it hard to also believe someone like Tawnia is going to... just get married and quit all that and settle down and... what, do housekeeping or mommy things, or...? They could go really "out there" and have Amy and Tawnia start a detective agency together or something...). (Also, regardless of the bad blood between MC and the other guys, that's never implied on-air, so in-canon I think I can believe they're still in contact with her sometimes even if she's never mentioned again. She gets on great with my OC, for example-- sometimes to Hannibal's chagrin, lol-- and indeed I do have a scenario where she has a job for them in Jakarta. {Yes, getting B.A. there is fun.})
Murdock could have a sitcom about life in the VA hospital, with a regular cast of characters-- doctors and nurses, the other residents he hangs out with, etc. It could be absolutely ridiculous, since in TAT, everything about the VA hospital is ridiculous anyway. I guess they could also do it post-S5 where he's still out of the hospital and how he does "life on the outside," too.
They could do a spinoff of Face being pardoned and the scrapes he gets into in his new life, or how he can't really quit the "bad guy fighting" business even though he tries. "Young Face" could be an interesting one too, though. I mean, what has that guy probably gotten into? There's certainly been plenty hinted at.
B.A.... hm. Not sure what they could do with him, maybe something around the youth center (think any kid-based sitcom from the time... something like The Facts of Life but at the youth center? Or maybe a kid-detective type show with B.A. as their mentor. Or, knowing MT, it'd probably be something where the kids get into scrapes and situations from which young viewers could learn life lessons...). Or maybe he moves back to Chicago to be near his mom and the show is set there.
Yes, "young Hannibal" could be a thing, or Hannibal off doing jobs on his own (just like he did in S5 "Point of No Return"). Especially since, if they got pardoned, I could almost see the other guys going off to live their own lives (Face to try to be a society man running scams on the side but without the danger of team jobs, B.A. to work at the youth center and fix cars and call his mom on Sundays, and Murdock to figure out how to be a sane guy with a stable life) and Hannibal's the only one who can't truly give up "the jazz"...
I think all of these would have to assume the team had been pardoned/got out of Stockwell's clutches, if we have characters striking out on their own.
Alternately, I guess they could have a new show with the team pardoned and how life looks for them after that... maybe how they navigate being legitimate, or how they try to balance being legitimate with still going after bad guys.
(Yes, many of these ideas are dorky. Spinoffs in those days often/usually were.)
Ooh. How much would I love a spinoff where somehow they team up all the awesome women from the show? I cannot think of any reason or way this might happen, or what the premise would be, but it would be great. Amy, Tawnia, Maggie Sullivan, Bobb(i/y/ie) from "The Bend In the River," Annie from "Fire," maybe even the woman who pretended to be Richter's daughter (hey, they might need a scam artist, too) or the lawyer from "The Heart of Rock n Roll."
I was thinking a prequel too, but it would have been neat to see where Stockwell came from and how he got to be that way. (I don't consider THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. his backstory).
I have to say... Stockwell was a creepy jerk, but he
was a tough badass.
I agree that a Frankie spin-off, pre or post the series, would have been fun. Just not sure of the premise.
For some reason, I would think that one would have to be a sitcom-- pure comedy type situations.
Personally, even though he was never in the credits, I always wanted a Decker spin-off.
Might be interesting. Who was Decker? What's his background (which is hinted at)? How did he get to where he is today? I really don't like how very bad they made him (the part about blowing up VC hospitals; I feel like there were a lot of ways he could've bumped heads with Hannibal, even seriously, without getting nearly into war-crime territory for him)-- otherwise I would be very into this. Although I could somehow see them starting out with the premise of the show as being a bad guy and his background, but by the end of the run he'd have become a sympathetic good guy-- too many shows seemed to do that. I think it would be hard *not* to do that and keep an audience engaged/caring about the character, but it seems false to the original character. I guess they could try to make the show explain why he seems to be such a hardass, or what really happened with the VC hospitals (after all, the team are sympathetic bank robbers...).
I wonder if they could do an "army" spinoff about all of them trying to catch the team.
I wonder if they could spinoffs from any of the episodes... what happened after the episode was over... I'm sure there are ones where we've wondered "what happened next?" though I can't think of any off the top of my head.
As I've probably mentioned numerous times before on this forum, I just really don't want to see any productions made which are supposed to be "our A-TEAM," i.e. where there are characters named Hannibal, Face, Murdock, and/or BA or any of the characters in the show. I realize that the movie was made, but since I never saw it, I don't really think that much about it. Aside from fanfiction, which is only "canon" in the minds of each fanfiction writer, I don't want anything messing up the "canon" of the show, even though I know that the show itself may not always stick to a single "canon." And I just like to leave the show alone. It was a show for the '80s in my mind and not to be updated for the 2020s and I don't even really want any prequels.
I guess when I think of this, I think of immediate spinoffs in the 80s/90s, just like were done with so many shows, not an updated reboot done today. Like, you know, there was
M*A*S*H and
AfterM*A*S*H or whatever it was called,
The Golden Girls and
Golden Palace,
WKRP in Cincinnati and
The New WKRP,
The Cosby Show and
A Different World, etc. etc. The whole "this was a successful franchise and we're ending it for whatever reason but we don't want to let go of it yet so let's do a spinoff" thing. So when I thought "spinoff," I thought "something that went into production shortly after the original show's run." I wouldn't want something "updated" for now, either-- I saw one clip of the new movie and that was enough for me. Part of the appeal of the old one was the time frame, I think. The flavor of it, set now, would have to be very different.
