Okay, there are different types of race car driving, right? Formula-1 are the slick looking open-wheeled cars... Then there's stock car racing, and I believe this was already featured in The A-Team in that episode where we learned a little about Hannibal's past... So this question, which I hope will get more than one or two posts but an actual discussion, is for my epic story that I'm STILL writing. (Yes, I have over 30 books now in this origin story turned alternate-universe piece). The team has a job where there will be race cars. I'm trying to decide whether the team will place BA as the driver for this job, Hannibal, or Murdock. I know it won't be Face. With the other three as options, I don't see Face being the best choice. What are the arguments for each of them to be the driver and against? BA is an excellent power driver, but Murdock is literally crazy, but is he too crazy? Would Hannibal be the best choice? Who should be the driver for this story-arc? (I haven't decided if it'll be Formula-1 or Stock Car racing yet.)

Hmmm... my knee-jerk reaction is to say B.A. For many reasons, including that he's so mechanically-inclined (and I could almost see him making some sort of custom modification that would require him to drive because he's the only one who could work it, or something). (My second choice would be Face-- simply because he already has some experience driving a performance car, if you count a street-legal Corvette-- but you already said you don't want to/can't use him for that.)
Murdock... I would almost be with you on the "too crazy" part. Like, he might take risks that could get him the win, but he might also come up with some sort of obsession that would ruin it, as has happened/nearly happened on other jobs. I mean, he's definitely shown to be able to operate pretty much any kind of machinery they put him in, after about two minutes, so I'd say he'd definitely be *capable* of it... but he might go off the rails with an invisible co-driver who gives him bad advice, or come up with some idea about therapy that requires him to let the other guy win, or imitate some other famous driver's style in some way that causes issues-- too busy doing fancy tricks or doing some kind of impression ("well, so-and-so alwayus hung back and then zoomed up for the win at the last minute..." or something).
Hannibal... I feel like Hannibal is also "too crazy"-- as in, he might get an idea in his head for sticking it to the other guy, which also might cost him victory because he would want to make a point or do it with "style" even if it didn't come out right (he, too, has nearly ruined jobs because of this, right from the very first episode where they nearly got caught by Lynch because Hannibal wanted to make sure to also humiliate Lynch rather than making a clean and safe getaway).
(If it was going to be F1, though, for some reason I can better imagine Murdock in the driver's seat. I have no idea why. I guess because it feels like you'd have to be more nutty to strap yourself into a low-to-the-ground, open-to-the-air thing to drive like a bat out of hell, and B.A. might be like, "I gotta do *what*??"?)

I think it would depend on the type of racing. For a brute force type of driver with some knowledge about how the cars should handle, B.A. hands down. Definitely in the NASCAR-type circuit. I'm not sure he would even fit in a Formula 1 car. I think Hannibal would be better on the sidelines as the coach, a la Doc in CARS. I think he is a better full-field view kind of guy rather than the driver. I'm not sure anyone would want Murdock on the track, regardless of how many times he has seen CANNONBALL RUN. I have to say that I like Face in Formula 1. Katia makes a good point about him being in that mindset to some degree with the Corvette. I think he would really open it up if the car was not his. Plus, I think he knows the girls would like that. So, NASCAR, B.A. Formula 1: Face.

You know, I was thinking Face would be perfect for the stock car racing because he's so pretty. Aren't they all about ads and promotions? He might be the best choice afterall. PLUS... Hannibal likes to spice things up a bit by not necessarily picking the easy choice for a role. Think of Murdock as the 007 character instead of Face.
Can Face handle driving as well as the others? Would he win? Or would they have to pull off some ATeam magic for him to win the races?

In that case, they would need some help I think. If he was just racing as part of his outside financial structures for the team, I think he would do fine on his own.

It occurred to me that Face would be cute in a racing helmet (and I don't usually go for Face, and honestly don't see him as being as attractive as they try to sell him as*). Yeah, there are a lot of times when Murdock really comes through-- and does so as completely sane, intelligent, etc. Usually in S5, though. (Since I never got to see the first few episodes of S5-- what are the circumstances of Murdock being released? Is it actually legit, or was it Stockwell pulling strings?)
I'm sure Face can drive as well as any of the rest of them. I don't know that he could go completely untrained in racing and win. Driving a Corvette-- which he may have souped up, perhaps with the help of B.A.; we don't know but it wouldn't surprise me-- will help him out with that more than driving, say, a Chevette, but there's still a lot more to racing that it's unlikely he ever would've had occasion to practice or learn.
*OMG. Just had a thought. What if Harrison Ford played Face?? He's got that perfect "rogue-ish charm" thing going on...

It seems that Stockwell pulled some strings or that perhaps Murdock just left the VA. I don't think that is ever really clear in S5.
