Actually, that's how I fall asleep sometimes. When my mind is running and I'm having difficulty winding down, I play out scenes in my mind. .

What do you suppose could be a good job for a sidekick? I have never figured out what it is my OC does for a living. The "reporter" thing is good but overdone by now. Frankie's special effects thing is okay, I guess, but... he just disappears and no one wonders why?
It's hard because it has to be something where someone can take a lot of time off, on short notice, to go with the team. (That's why the "reporter" angle is good-- they make it sound kind of like Amy finds story opportunities in many of the places they go, though I don't know how realistic that is that she can just pitch story ideas and always be told she can do it and do it right then and not get assigned to something else in the meantime.) I mean, you could pick some sort of freelance work where the person doesn't have a set schedule or a boss to miss them, I guess, but then they'd probably also not have much money (which I guess could be an angle-- the team jobs help pad their income-- but it's not that fun to write about someone always being short on cash. Then again, characters in movies/TV shows rarely have a realistic economic situation...).
I had thought of having Elise work for LAPD or a law firm-- hence she could be good at getting information, as that's the angle she uses to get to go with them, that she can help them with research and such-- but no way would Hannibal trust someone who did that; he'd assume they were an Army or law enforcement plant. Plus, there's the issue of "taking a lot of time off, on short notice." Or, the person could simply be rich, like some sort of trust-fund baby, and not have to work, but that's not very realistic, either. They could be a teacher or professor, and only available in the summer, which could be an interesting piece of the plot, in that they're only a part-time member of the team (also could be interesting since a prof might be good at research, and a teacher of younger kids could maybe meet the team through B.A.), but that's still not what I want for my OC in particular.

If the team can survive on the money made on the missions, then could the OC just also survive by that without having to have a job that she has to take time off work for? I guess there would have to be some angle as to why she ever gets involved with the team, though.

I kind of don't want her to not work (hence part of the reason I don't want to just make her rich so she never had to work). In part, the team relies on this because they don't have a choice. Sidekicks, though, are able to have more of an outside life that they're probably not going to want to give up in order to commit to making a full-time life out of being on the run/breaking the law, and presumably might not want to do this forever and thus will someday need gainful employment again (and unlike the team, have the option to quit any time they like, or, like Amy, might be forced out of it). Also, there's the idea of giving up a possible pension with a "real" job, paying into Social Security, etc. Besides, the team do have other jobs-- Hannibal does, Murdock does once he's out of the VA, not sure if Face does but he scams a lot of stuff (I guess he is shown as having side ventures, like the whole Boy George fiasco and others), and I kind of always assumed B.A. probably does some kind of mechanic work on the side. (I actually still wonder how much they make from jobs. We know sometimes they don't get paid and barely do. But they also seem to have some sort of investments that likely keep them going through dry spells or low-paying jobs. Sometimes it seems their fee is more to cover their expenses than to pay them a real wage. I always kind of assumed they had other jobs because they had to, rather than for fun...)
(My OC gets involved with the team very much like Amy does-- through hiring them, then asks them to take her on after the job is over-- they're reluctant, but she points out that she could be useful in helping with research and stuff, hence why she needs the sort of skills that are useful to them. They're still reluctant, but then have a job they realize they could use her for, and the rest is history...)

Maybe she could be some kind of researcher? Historian? Adjunct teaching professor?
