I don't read a lot of fanfic, but it seems to me that most of it either takes place during the same general time frame as the TV series (i.e. early to mid-1980s) or else people may like to do fanfic about the team prior to the show, such as how they met, etc. But I'm curious as to how someone may picture the team about 20 years after the show ended. Eventually, they would have to slow down, right? I would not want to see old men being punched out by young thugs. That just would seem wrong.
Assuming the team never cleared their names and had to live out their lives sort of "on the run," and assuming they were all still alive, what do you think they would be doing in the year 2005? How old would Hannibal be? GP would have been 77 years old, so assume Hannibal may be about that age. Do you think Face would still be womanizing? Would Murdock still live at the VA? What would BA be doing? Of all of them, I feel like I could most picture BA doing what he's been doing all along - working with troubled youth, for example. And I feel like they would come to the defense of people being mistreated, but I think they would have to do so more through clever schemes rather than so much fighting.

Hannibal and Maggie are together - but not married. No one tells John Hannibal Smith when he is and is not married! He's most of the time a grumpy old man enjoying the retired life, but just recently an old friend of Maggie's was murdered and he called the team back together - for her.
Face has a million things on the go and still enjoys the playboy lifestyle. Still handsome and still well dressed. But still comes running when Hannibal needs him.
BA has a wife and kids and has opened up his own garage - not cause he needs the money. He just enjoys it. She's quite a bit younger than him, but his family (two boys and a girl) is pretty young mostly because he didn't want to settle down until their problem with the law was settled.
Murdock really just hangs out. Geez. I never realized how boring I've made Murdock! He hangs out with the others. He does have his own chopper and small planes.

(The above is a summary of my current unfinished book. Book THIRTY-TWO. It's actually taking place in the 90s, not 2005, but close enough. Fun fact: Ray is still alive in my books. I've mentioned this before. I fell in love with the character while writing the origin story and when I got to the point in time where he was to be killed, I couldn't do it. I grew way too emotionally attached to the character I had created. Which officially makes my books Alternate Universe and not canon. Fan fic snobs - ready? Aim? Fire!)

I think that Murdock would be in close contact with Faceman still, after all, they are the best buddies. So maybe one of Face's things would be a delivery company with planes flying to unusual/dangerous/challenging locations (maybe even as charity, after all Face is an orphan), that would keep both of them happy, I think.

Okay, I was not thinking of the team being pardoned but still having to live sort of under the radar. It sounds like Sidney's story has the team pardoned or cleared somehow.....so what if they were never pardoned? Then what would they be doing in 2005? Would they have enough money from the various things that they have "percentages" in to live on or would they still need to be hiring themselves out for missions?

I think by then they would either go purely consultant and build their own small private army to help out and they would be the planning/management. Faceman would surely able to make the company even legal, even if not owned directly by them. Somehow I want to see them all still together. Forever team!

Me too. That's why I actually don't want them to be pardoned. I want them to go on doing what they do and I don't know that they would actually be able to if they were "legit" because then they would have to abide by the laws. And this is funny coming from me because I tend to try to be very law-abiding!

Well, they did say they'd keep on even if they were pardoned...
I'm not sure if they'd worry about following laws even then, though. I imagine they'd still have to stay somewhat underground with what they're doing anyway. And, in a way it's surprising that they wouldn't worry about breaking laws-- I mean, the guys know they're on the run from Uncle Sam, but aside from that they don't seem like the type of people who'd be the "in for a penny, in for a pound" types who would figure "eh, we're already in trouble anyway" or "we're already criminals so we don't care which other laws we break." They're still goody-two-shoes types-- there's an episode where there's some comment made on guys not paying taxes (can't remember the name, but I think it's the one with the construction company), and one where Hannibal makes a patriotic monologue when someone asks why they don't just skip the country if the government is after them.

I imagine Hannibal enjoying the quieter life in retirement married to Maggie although sometimes still craving for an adventure with the other guys.
I see Faceman as still conning people for his own needs and pretty much living the life as a playboy type.
BA i see as possibly having his own mechanic business just for the sheer love of tinkering with engines and also in his spare time volunteering as a support youth worker.
And Murdock i see him as married to the Vet from (Bounty aka Wendy Fulton) and working in the hospitality area like he was doing in 'Without Reservations' possibly even having his own restaurant like HM's fish food or something lol

The one job Murdock did seem good at (aside from being a pilot) was working at restaurants. I think they should have had the woman from WITHOUT RESERVATIONS be his girlfriend if they wanted him to have a steady girlfriend in Season 5. And I wonder why he moved to that greasy diner-type place he was at with "Erica" instead of staying at the pizza place. I would think that the pizza place owner would have been so glad to have had Murdock and his friends save the day that he could have had a job there the rest of his life if he wanted it.

I would think that the pizza place owner would have been so glad to have had Murdock and his friends save the day that he could have had a job there the rest of his life if he wanted it. Well, OTOH, Murdock and his friends destroyed the place with a gas explosion (which might be why he couldn't keep working there, if they had to close and rebuild). (Yeah, I know, allegedly the gas explosion did no more than blow the kitchen door off and amazingly there was no fire and no further issues despite the fact that the gas was still running, but I like to be realistic and think there was significant damage to the kitchen. Which insurance may not have covered since it was done deliberately.)
It could be he started working at Erica's place because she got him a job there, or he wanted to because she worked there. Or, he said he was trying to work up to management, so maybe he had better career opportunities there. (I still don't see Murdock as a long-term service-job worker-- he's smart and surely has more qualifications for better jobs-- but it does sort of seem they were setting him up for restaurant work, eh?)
I feel like the woman in "Without Reservations" was too young for him, though. She looked to me to be in her early to mid 20s, whereas Murdock's about 40 by the end of the series.

I really liked the woman in WITHOUT RESERVATIONS. In my opinion, the actress did a good job portraying emotion without being over the top. I think there was a point where she had a tear in her eye, probably after Face was shot.
