What was the point in Face driving the Excalibur for a couple of episodes? The car was just no substitute for the Vette and i think the Vette was much better for the character of Face

I always find that kind of odd, too. I wonder what they were trying to do there. Maybe they thought it would be nice for Face to switch around cars, kind of like how he moved from penthouse to penthouse? One thing I hate (among many) about season 5 is what they did to Face's Vette!

Yeh writing of the Vette wasn't a smart move but it just gives more fuel to the fire in the 'hating Frankie' campaign because it was Frankie after all who was meant to have tinkered with Face's car
But the Excalibur just didn't make sense because it wasn't referred too was it as Pecks new vehicle?

I think Face must have just "borrowed" the Excalibur from someone - maybe someone whose penthouse he was also "borrowing" at the time?

The Vette was kind of an extension of Face. Doesnt explain why the Excalibur was used in other eps, however, when the Vette would have been just as good.

So what you're saying is that the Vette isn't as resilient as the van and maybe won't be back to new next episode?

Yeah i suppose your right there, never thought that way that the script needed his car shot up and no way they could do that with the Vette and no way would Peck allow that in the episode. Look how protective he was over his Vette in 'Chopping Spree' after Hannibal drove it 🤣

This is a great thread hasford1978. I think this issue has bugged me for years now, thinking about it.
Its kind of odd at the start of ROAD TO HOPE how they make such a big deal about Faces new ride, etc. It makes sense within that ep but the Excalibur wasnt new at all. We definitely see Face with it in BEVERLY HILLS when he drives the team to the tailors.
Did the car appear in other ep apart those two eps?
The mystery is why the car was used in BEVERLY HILLS. The vette would have been posh enough to drive around that part of LA, for example. I dont think the Exalibur was used in the final battle in that ep. The team use the bad guys car to smash into the art gallery.

I haven't seen the episode's 'Beverly Hills assault' or 'Road to Hope' in a while but I've never been a fan of the Exlicabur, for me never understood why it was even there as part of the story? As you just mentioned Pico Bob the Vette would've looked just as good if not better really driving around Beverly Hills.
I also think the Vette was a perfect choice for the character of Face, the style of the entire car was just a perfect match for Faceman, it oozes style, looks, charm and charisma just like the guy driving it..i often wonder when season 2 started being produced who came up with the idea of Peck having his own car and who chose the final idea for his car? Was that part of Dirk's influence on Cannell or what?

I don't care that much one way or the other about the Excalibur, but I'm glad they went back to the 'Vette. I just still hate so much what they did to the 'Vette in S5....and all because of Frankie. If the 'Vette could at least have gone out in a blaze of glory, being "sacrificed" for some greater good, I could handle it better.

Was that part of Dirk's influence on Cannell or what? I've learned from this board that it was Dirk's decision to move Face's clothes aways from the leather jacket and jeans of season 1 to the ties and smart jackets that came subsequently. Its not impossible that Dirk also wanted Face to have his own wheels.

Excalibur watch. I've just watched DOUBLE HEAT and the enigmatic red vehicle makes a brief appearance, though not driven by Face. Its at the end at the final battle at the hotel. Its the car that Murdock drives round to the baddies, finds the purple lipstick and adopts a British rockstar persona, possibly mimicking Mick Jagger.
EDIT: just spotted that amyk noted the exact same thing on the DOUBLE HEAT thread three days ago!

I wonder if that was the same vehicle that Face started using a little bit further on and i wonder if that vehicle is still around these days?
