SEASON FIVE This would be the final season of the A-Team. We see them add two new associates; see their court martial; move across the country to a new locale; see Murdock declared sane; and the hour-long series finale. It is not considered the best season, but it does have some great moments. Enjoy.

DISHPAN MAN (Part 1 of the Court Martial) First aired: 9/26/1986 The A-Team is blackmailed by retired General Stockwell, who kidnaps Hannibal and threatens to have him prosecuted if the A-Team fails to secure the release of hostages held on a plane in Spain. Josh Curtis, someone who can clear the A-Team is on board, but will he cooperate if rescued?. Writer: Stephen J. Cannell Director: Tony Mordente Guest star: Judith Ledford (Carla), Stanley Brock (Mr. Rubinick), David Hess (Ben Al Fraden), Sandy McPeak (Josh Curtis), John Durbin (Ramon Souley), Richard Whitaker (Able Three), Patrice Chanel (Newswoman), Thomas Stoviak (Paramedic), Douglas Johnson (Male Nurse), Houshang Touzie (Akim), Frank Moon (Doctor), Robert Gallo (Controller), Kally Lynn Pushkin (Melinda), Teru Mophie (Magaret), Fernando Escandon (Unknown), Marc Tubert (Unknown), Hector Jaime Mercado (Unknown), Andrew Divoff Commentary:I only give this one four bullets. It seems that the A-Team is blinded too easily when brought up against new adversary General Stockwell. You can never tell if he is on their side or not and it makes for a tenuous work relationship with the A-Team. This episode ends up with their being under arrest after helping rescue a plane-load of hostages. Notes:- Murdock is automatically assumed into the program, although his team membership has always been in question with the government.
- New opening scenes and credits are rolled in this episode, the fifth season premiere. The theme song has also been reworked.
Goof: Stockwell says "Your callsigns will be Empress 7 through 12." There are only four members of the A-Team, and along with Frankie Santana, it would make a total of five. "7 through 12" would be six numbered call-signs.
Special guest stars:- Robert Vaughn would join the cast as General Stockwell and would be a main character for the rest of the series.
- Sandy McPeak would guest star twice on the A-Team as the same person. He would play Josh Curtis and testify against the A-Team after they save him.
- Judith Ledford would guest star as Carla seven times in the A-Team. She works directly for Stockwell and was not in the episodes ALIVE AT FIVE, FAMILY REUNION, THE CRYSTAL SKULL, THE SPY WHO MUGGED ME, THE GREY TEAM, and WITHOUT RESERVATIONS.
- Eddie Velez (I) would make his first appearance as Eddie "Dishpan" Santana and would be a regular for the rest of the series.
- Andrew Divoff would guest star twice as an unnamed character in the A-Team. The two episodes would be this one and FIRING LINE.
- John Durbin would guest star twice in the A-Team. Once would be in this episode as Ramon Soulay and once would be in the episode FIRING LINE as an unnamed character.
- Kelly Lynn Pushkin would make her first of only three documented acting appearances in this episode of the A-Team as Melinda.
- Tery McPhie would make her first of only two documented acting appearances in this episode of the A-Team as Margaret.

TRIAL BY FIRE (Part 2 of the Court Martial) First aired: 10/3/1986 The A-Team's court martial begins where they are accused for the death of Colonel Samuel Morrison and robbing the National Bank of Hanoi. Strangely Murdock isn't accused of being part of the A-Team. Writer: Tom Blomquist Director: Les Sheldon Guest star: Lance LeGault (Colonel Roderick Decker), Judith Ledford (Carla) , David Ackroyd (Major Laskov), Byrne Piven (Benny Conway), J.A. Preston (Judge), Dana Lee (Unknown), Robert Darnell (Unknown), Adam Gregor (Unknown), Richard Newton (Unknown), Lisa Mordente (Stewardess), Rod Britt (Guard), Guy Christopher (Colonel Morrison), Leland Sun (NVA Soldier #3), Tiiu Leek (Herself), Sandy McPeak (Josh Curtis) Commentary:In this episode we see the A-Team get put on trial for robbing the bank of Hanoi. We get to see B.A. charge the witness stand and the A-Team find out that there is one man alive who can clear them. Murdock and Frankie would take him out as Nighthawk Commandos, even though Murdock is not crazy about working with Frankie. We even see Colonel Decker return to testify against the A-Team. The worst thing about the episode is that the team thinks Murdock might have gone crazy after killing Colonel Morrison. We see the A-Team change their plea from innocent to guilty and back again. Finally, the episode ends with them being convicted and sentenced to die by a firing squad. Notes:- This would be the last appearance of Colonel Decker.
- The judge in this trilogy (J. A. Preston) would go on to play another famous member of the bar, Judge Julius Alexander Randolph in 1992's blockbuster A Few Good Men.
- Frankie Santana wrote a letter to the lawyer that would take the A-Team's case to make sure they had proper representation.
- The A-Team would overpower the courtroom guards in this episode, but instead of escaping again, they elected to stay and continue the trial.
Special guest stars:- Dana Lee (I) would make his only appearance on the A-Team as Colonel Chung van Huet. Prior to this, he played the part of the Maitre d' in the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode THIRTY SECONDS OVER LITTLE TOKYO.
- Adam Gregor would guest star once on the A-Team in this episode as an unnamed character. Prior to this he guest starred in the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode LILACS, MR. MAXWELL as Yuri.

FIRING LINE (Part 3 of the Court Martial) First aired: 10/10/1986 General Stockwell interferes with the plans of Murdock and Frankie to free the rest of the A-Team before the Army can execute them by a firing squad. Writer: Frank Lupo Director: Michael O'Herlihy Guest star: Judith Ledford (Carla), Tony Ciccone (Orderly) , Andrew Divoff (Unknown), Katherine Heard (Nurse), Tiiu Leek (Herself), Rodney Saulsberry (Sergeant Reager), Frank McCarthy (Underwood), John Durbin (Unknown), Dan Tillis (Unknown), Dan Woren (Sergeant), Alison Rinehart (Girl in Bikini), Bill Dyer (Father Stellini) Commentary:This is only a three bullet episode in my mind. We see several daydreams of the team trying to figure out ways to escape, but it is up to Murdock and Frankie to figure out how to save them. This episode has always been forced, especially with the lax security that lets both Murdock AND Frankie onto the island. Then, the ending scene where the team takes out some bad guys is staged by Stockwell where they again seem outsmarted. Not the best episode in my mind overall. Notes:- Murdock apparently now works as a dog catcher.
- The A-Team's new home is located in Langley, Virginia.
- Murdock and Frankie both impersonate Father Stellini in an effort to break out the prisoners.
Special guest stars:- Francis X. McCarthy (credited as Frank McCarthy) would guest star as Underwood in this episode. He previously guest starred in the SJC production THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO twice. He first guest starred as Edward McAstelli in MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COWBOYS and his second appearance was as Marshall in TRAIN OF THOUGHT.
- Alison Rinehart would only have one documented acting role and it would come in this episode as the girl in the bikini.

QUARTERBACK SNEAK First aired: 10/17/1986 The A-Team uses a football game as a cover to sneak a chemical warfare scientist out of East Germany. He just wants to defect. Writer: Paul Birnbaum Director: Craig R. Baxley Guest star: Judith Ledford (Carla) , Alan Autry (Mike "The Hammer" Horn), Bo Brundin (Dr. Warren Strasser), Ray Reinhardt (Brecht), Joe Namath (T.J. Bryant), Jim Brown (Unknown), Judy Geeson (Unknown), John Matuszak (Unknown), Anna Rapagna (Maggie), Peter Frankland (Guard #2), Frank Holms (Agent), Michele Hart (Reporter), Marlon McGamn (Susan), Raymond Elendorf (Guard #1), Robert Anton (Guard), Sven Thorsen (Rolf), George Fisher (Guard #3), Lyman Ward (Eisher) Commentary:This episode has only ever been a two bullet for me. It had potential, but the whole idea of the Cold War being decided by a football game was ridiculous and so was the fact that B.A. and other members were against one addition because they had a falling out years ago. Too forced in my mind. Notes:- Originally, Joe Montana was supposed to guest star, but had to back out due to NFLPA conflicts.
- Murdock's new job is as "Underwear Inspector Six."
Goof: B.A. is deathly afraid of flying, so much that they have to drug him everytime they want to get him on a plane or helicopter. At the end of this episode, the team is running towards the helicopter, and B.A. almost misses it. He ends up hanging off the bottom of the helicopter without ever mentioning his fear of being in the air.
Goof: While the teams are playing football at the end, one of the players is wearing a jersey that says number twelve on both sides of his jersey, but the front says number 14.
Goof: The A-Team were wanted murderers at this time, and as a result were having to be very covert in everything they did under Stockwell. If this is the case, why was B.A. allowed to play on the football team under his legitmate name, and with the game being broadcast in the United States?
Special guest stars:- Joe Namath would guest star as quarterback T.J. Bryant.
- Jim Brown (I) would guest star as well, but as an unnamed character.
- Bo Brundin would guest star in this episode as Dr. Warren Strasser. A former guest star role was on the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode THIS IS THE ONE THE SUIT WAS MEANT FOR as Stanislov.
- Anna Rapagna would guest star twice on the A-Team in unrelated roles. One appearance would be in this episode as Maggie. She would reappear as Kendall in the episode FAMILY REUNION.
- Robert Anton would make his one and only guest star appearance ever in this episode as a guard.

THE THEORY OF REVOLUTION First aired: 10/24/1986 The violent outbreak of a revolution interferes with the planned rescue of three American citizens from a Third World Country. Writer: Burt Pearl, Steven L. Sears Director: Sydney Hayers Guest star: Judith Ledford (Carla) , Castulo Guerra (Martien), Alejandro Rey (Commandant), Tasia Valenza (Bonita), Pepe Serna (Tómas Jefferson), Vladimir Skomarovsky (Anatoly Terensky), Geno Silva, Peter Brown (Unknown), Blake Conway (Unknown), Carlos Cervantes (Unknown), Charles Howerton (Unknown), Doran Clark Commentary:This episode is fun because we get to see the team on assignment to rescue some American citizens. Frankie even finds a lady who he can come back to after he gets his pardon from the President. Overall this is not a bad episode but nothing really stands out about it. Notes:- The Beatles song "Revolution" is played in this episode.
Special guest stars:- Pepe Serna would guest star once on the A-Team in this episode as Tomas Jefferson. He had guest starred in the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode THIS IS THE ONE THE SUIT WAS MEANT FOR as Cortez.

THE SAY U.N.C.L.E. AFFAIR First aired: 10/31/1986 Stockwell is kidnapped by his former partner who has "gone bad" and the A-Team has 18 hours to find him or forever lose any chances of securing a pardon - something they all still hope for. Writer: Terry D. Nelson Director: Michael O'Herlihy Guest star: Judith Ledford (Carla) , David McCallum (Ivan), Toni Attel (Reynolds), James Saito (Kwai Li), Eric Goldner (Borofsky), Debra Sandlund (Train Guide), Robert Covarobins (Cuban Officer), Wendy Gordon (Anchorwoman), David Gamburg (Russian Guard), Hon Pare (Assistant Director), April Wayne (Lydia), Pearl Huang (Chinese Maid) Commentary:This is only a two bullet episode for me and probably for most other viewers who have never seen the TV show THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. It has a lot of background on Stockwell, which is nice, but overall the whole episode is forced. The final action sequence is the best part of this episode. Notes:- Continuity: In the Chinese consulate, the dial on the safe changes. When we first see it, it is black with white numbers on the face of the dial (a wall safe). The close-up shot shows it as one with a silver dial with black numbers. Also, the numbers are on the edge of the dial, indicating that it's probably a floor safe.
- Music: Most of the music in this episode was from Frank Sinatra. The songs include:
"It Was a Very Good Year," "When Somebody Loves You," "Call Me Irresponsible," and "Young at Heart."
- This episode has a mulitude of references to co-star Robert Vaughn's former series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. including a guest appearence by his co-star David McCullium, the word 'Uncle' in the title, the format of the episode title ("U.N.C.L.E." episode titles were usually in the format of 'The Subject Of This Week's Episode Affair'), Vaughn opening Channel D, and the bright swirly lights which seperated the episode scenes.
Special guest stars:- Eric Goldner would make his one and only guest star appearance ever in this episode as Borofsky.
- Robert Covarobins would make his one and only guest star appearance ever in this episode as a Cuban officer.
- Jon Pare would guest star once on the A-Team in this episode as an assistant director. He did a lot of work though behind the scenes on the A-TEAM. He was the assistant director on twelve episodes: SEMI-FRIENDLY PERSUASION, FIRE, DOUBLE HEAT, SHOWDOWN!, SHERIFFS OF RIVERTOWN, BREAKOUT!, THE BIG SQUEEZE, SKINS, MOVING TARGETS, WASTE 'EM!, BEVERLY HILLS ASSAULT, and this episode.

ALIVE AT FIVE First aired: 11/7/1986 Face doesn't believe they will get their pardon anymore and decides to leave the A-Team. He plans to escape during the next mission, but gets involved helping a journalist. Writer: Bill Nuss Director: Craig R. Baxley Guest star: Richard Romanus (Tommy Tedesco), Valerie Wildman (Sally Vogel), Red West (Brooks), Linden Chiles (Notting), Dennis Fimple (Cates), Paul Sylvan (Brick Peterson), Lora Staley (Unknown), Robert Miano (Unknown), Mike Lally (Unknown), Parker Whitman (Chief Watkins), Hope North (Nadia), Jim McIntyre (Deputy) Commentary:This one only gets two bullets from me too. We see Face try to quit the team again, but each time he does, something keeps happening to bring him back to the others. It was just too forced of an episode to be enjoyable in my mind. Notes:- Crew or equipment visible: While leaving the house after using the phone, a black metal tube (possibly the mike) can briefly be seen.
- Murdock's Shirt says: "Sensuous and Strong." (He wore that shirt in "Trial By Fire").
- This is not the first time Face attempts to leave the A-Team. Believing he had received a full government pardon, he also tried to leave the boys behind in Mind Games.
Special guest stars:- Dennis Fimple would guest star as Cates in this episode. However, SJC fans will have no trouble recognizing him as Deputy Kyle Kane in the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode HOG WILD.

FAMILY REUNION First aired: 11/14/1986 A former political adviser offers to trade a diary, which could damage some leading politicians, for a reunion with his daughter - who Face is hitting on. Then Murdock learns that the man may be Face's father and the daughter Face's sister. The episode ending was voted by the viewers. Writer: Steven L. Sears Director: James Darren Guest star: Jeff Corey (A.J. Bancroft), Terri Treas (the fake Ellen Bancroft), Beau Billingslea (Owens), Anna Rapagna (Kendall), Claire Kirkconnell (Ellen Bancroft), John Carter (IV) (Jacob Edwards), Lou Felder (Unknown), Cory McClendon (Sister Margaret), Joe Faust (Captain) Commentary:This episode was only three stars for me sadly. We learn a lot about Face's potential past, but most of the episode was just so much fluff to get to that point in the episode. Even the fight between Murdock and Face was poignant enough to win some points, but it did not help the rating overall. Notes:- The audience chose the ending through a telephone call-in vote. The vote was to determine if Bancroft was Face's dad or not.
- Murdock's job is as a turkey keeper.
- A rare physical fight between Face and Murdock.
Special guest star:- Cory McClendon would make her one and only acting appearance ever in this episode as an unnamed character.

POINT OF NO RETURN First aired: 11/18/1986 Stockwell refuses to allow the A-Team to go after Hannibal when he fails to check in while on a solo mission in hostile territory of Hong Kong. The rest of the Team goes anyway. Writer: Burt Pearl Director: Bob Bralver Guest star: Judith Ledford (Carla) , Soon Tech-Oh (Unknown), Rosalind Chao (Alice Heath), Dustin Nguyen (Bobby), Nancy Kwan (Lin Wu), Clive Rosengren (Unknown), Dale Ishimoto (Unknown), Shelly Desai (Rajey), Robert Kino (Luk Toy), Pamela Kwong (Iris), Nathan Jung (Chi), Tom Logo (Chang) Commentary:This episode gets four bullets from me because it shows the team caring for Hannibal and wanting to find him. It even has the main characters showing a lack of patience with Frankie as he questions the decision of going after the bad guys. Murdock and Face work great as a team trying to find him. The thing that takes away from the episode is that Hannibal is missing in most of it and that the radioactive element seems forced. Notes:- In this episode, Murdock worries about the effects of radiation poisoning, which is very similar to what Bill Maxwell went through in LIVE AT ELEVEN on the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO.
Special guest stars:- Soon-Tek Oh would guest star as an unnamed character in this episode. SJC fans will recognize him as Ernie Shikinami from the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode THIRTY SECONDS OVER LITTLE TOKYO.
- This would be the last of two ever guest appearances of Pamela Kwong. In this episode she would play Iris.

THE CRYSTAL SKULL First aired: 11/28/1986 The A-Team's effort to secure a valuable religious artifact. When Face, Murdock and Frankie run into a local tribe on the island, they think Murdock is god, since he wears that artifact. B.A. can't believe that. The local monks (who the A-Team stole the artifact from) attack the village now, because they want to enslave all the locals to work in their diamond mines. Writer: Bill Nuss Director: Michael O'Herlihy Guest star: Sam Hiana (Chief Walekino), Manu Tupou (Chief Sikahama), Art Tizon (Kolou), Rochelle Ahsana (Leesa), Jack Verbois (McVee), Barry Pierce (Unknown), Peter Iacangelo (Unknown), Jeffrey Alan Chandler (Unknown), Aki Aleong (Unknown), Charles Hyman (Unknown), Jennifer Green (Australian Woman), Richard Herkert (Native #1), Titus Napoleon (Native #2) Commentary:This is really only a two bullet episode for me. It has Murdock being portrayed as a god on an island nation and being given a pretty girl. Then, the team helps stop the slavery of the natives there. The only good scene is when Murdock is fighting to save his life with the chief of one tribe so he can salvage the skull. Notes:- Murdock has a new job as the writer of fortune cookies.
Goof: When the Australian tries to intimidate Hannibal near the end of the episode, he cocks his gun twice.
Goof: Murdock is barefoot when he finishes the test of fire, but then is knocked unconscious in the attack directly after that. When he wakes up, he has shoes on.
- Towards the end of the episode, the tribal men are chanting "Who wrote this, who wrote this?" whilst bowing to Murdock and his statue.
Special guest stars:- Jennifer Green (V) would make her one and only guest appearance ever in this episode as an unnamed character.

THE SPY WHO MUGGED ME First aired: 12/2/1986 Murdock has to stop a killer before his next assassination. The only way for Murdock to get to his target is to pose as secret agent Logan Ross. Writer: Paul Bernbaum Director: Michael O'Herlihy Guest star: Karen Kopins (Dominique), Roy Dotrice (Charles Jourdan), Kai Wulff (Krueger), Marianne Marks (Unknown), Professor Toru Tanaka (Frobe), Maurice Marsal (Unknown), Nick Faltas (Unknown), Ronan O'Casey (Unknown), Marius Mazmanian (Unknown) Commentary:This is a great five bullet episode. We get to see Murdock go undercover as a James Bondesque individual, much to the chagrin of Face, as the team tries to stop an international disaster from happening. Great action and mystery all around. Notes:- The title refers to the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me from 1977. A lot of quotes in this episode refer to famous James Bond quotes as well.
Special guest stars:- All guest star appearances have been documented in earlier postings.

THE GREY TEAM First aired: 12/30/1986 The A-Team must bring a girl in who has stolen a briefcase from her father, filled with material she believes he's selling to the Soviets. She flees to an Old People's Home, but the Soviets send their own team, forcing the old folks into service as "The Grey Team." Writer: Tom Blomquist Director: Michael O'Herlihy Guest star: Moya Kord*ck (Paula Anderson), Lew Ayres (Bernie Greene), Tony Steedman (Sarnoff), Michael Shannon (Randy Anderson), John McLiam (Unknown), Paula Victor (Unknown), Lynn Logos (Unknown), Nick Angotti (Unknown), Eddie Quillan (Old Man), Roger Harris (Staffer), Leigh Kilton (Erica), Allan Graf (Other Man), Bob Orrison (Bus Driver), Paul Petersen (Unknown) Commentary:Sadly, I could not give the series finale a five bullet ending. I think there were great scenes for some of the cast like Face and Murdock, but most of the script seemed bland and not well tied up. B.A. and Frankie had a great scene with the senior citizens, but the whole plot line was tenuous. The best scene was the last one when the original four members are talking about their futures. Notes:- This was the series finale although another episode aired later, after the network pulled it out of its archives. On Murdock's T-shirt in this episode "Fini" (the French word for "end") is displayed. In the installment shown later, his shirt reads "almost fini".
- Frankie mentions going to jail and collecting $200. This is an allusion to "Monopoly," a popular American board game where a penalty of jail time is assessed, and a normal collection of $200 is disallowed.
- Frankie references Clearasil. Clearasil is a leading over-the-counter acne medication, most frequently used by teenagers like the one Frankie is discussing.
- The lady that lives near Bernie, the old man who is the apartment complex manager, is named Mrs. Greyhosky...an allusion to one of the long-time staff writers for SJC.
Special guest stars:- Roger Harris (I) would make his first of only three ever documented guest star roles in this episode where he played a staffer.
- Moya Kord*ck would guest star as Paula Anderson, her second of only three documented acting appearances ever.
- Allan Graf would guest star once on the A-Team in this episode as the other man. He was used to being on the set though, as he did a number of stunts for the series.
- Leigh Kilton would guest star as Erica, her second of only three documented acting appearances ever.

WITHOUT RESERVATIONS First aired: 3/8/1987 Frankie and Face visit Murdock (strangely completely sane) at his job in a restaurant, and all three become hostages of mobsters out to kill a patron, the US Attorney General. Hannibal and B.A. have to save the others, but things heat up when Face is shot and needs immediate medical attention. Writer: Bill Nuss Director: John Peter Kousakis Guest star: Mills Watson (Lou Canter), Bobby DiCicco (Joey), Ely Pouget (Gina), Alfred Dennis (Sal), Lonny Chapman (Henderson), Marc Alaimo (Unknown), Edward Bell (Unknown), Terrence O'Connor (Unknown), Chuck Walling (Attorney General Liebster), Hope Marie Carlton (Dawn) Commentary:I could only give this episode four bullets too. I like that Murdock has a new job at a pizza place and that Face and Frankie are stopping by, as well as B.A. later on, to help support him. We even see the first on-screen shooting of Face in this episode. I only gave it four bullets because it seems to be aired out of order, based on Murdock's shirt and because there was no resolution as to what happened with the pardons the team was supposed to get. Finally, B.A. and Hannibal were not in the episode that much, which put a damper on the team feel of it. Notes:- We find that B.A. does not like anchovies.
- This episode should have aired before THE GREY TEAM based on Murdock's shirt which translates to "Almost End."
- Every scene in the opening of this episode (except for one second where Frankie is shown) has been copied from the opening of episode 9, "Holiday in the Hills."
Special guest stars:- Marc Alaimo would guest star once on the A-Team. It was in this episode as an unnamed character. SJC fans will recognize him as Donnie Armus from the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode THERE'S JUST NO ACCOUNTING.
- Edward Bell (II) would guest star in this episode of the A-Team as an unnamed patron in the restaurant. SJC fans will easily recognize him as David Knight from the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO. Bell played Knight in the pilot episode and played Principal Knight in three others: DREAMS, SPACE RANGER, and THIRTY SECONDS OVER LITTLE TOKYO.
- Hope Marie Carlton, PLAYBOY Playmate of the Month for July 1985 would guest star in this episode of the A-Team as Dawn, her first documented acting role.
