I am not sure the source of these; they appear to be taken from Parade or another weekly magazine. They are various rumors/snippets about the show, mostly from the later seasons. Some of them, I question the veracity. This is a gossip column after all. There are no attributed authors or dates on these. Enjoy! Some of these are really cool, and there's a lot of speculation/what could have been kind of stuff.
"Table This, Fools!"
THE A-TEAM's two-hour season opener, shooting on the cruise ship Tropicale, bound for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, turned out to be no Love Boat. Insiders say that a disgruntled Mr. T refused to continue filming after he discovered a group of crew members sitting at his customary dinner table. According to reports, the crew members refused to budge and (believe it or not) made fun of Mr. T and a bodyguard---whereupon T demanded that the offenders be fired or he'd quit. They weren't. T, pleading illness, departed the ship. When stateside shooting resumed, T called in sick, but THE A-TEAM's producers, SJC Productions, were claiming that he'd be back to work when needed. Other sources said the producers had opted to shoot around Mr. T in hoped of putting him in later if and when he returned.
"A Model T?" (obviously a follow-up to #1)
Mr. T's back at work with his A-TEAM co-stars following a brief sickout (Grapevine, Aug. 31) But the old camraderie, say insiders, is lacking. T had demanded seven crew members be fired. They weren't, so T took a walk. Now we learn that T's Team-mate George Peppard threatened to quit if any of the crew members were let go. T is also said to have shocked his colleagues by charging fans a fee for autographed pictures of himself. The attitude on the set is now described as "professional and the work is getting done." T, through a spokesman, declined to comment.
"Family Feud"
"A" still stands for acrimony on THE A-TEAM. Insiders say that Mr. T and George Peppard, once good friends, are speaking to each other only when it's called for in the script. Meanwhile, executive producer Stehen J. Cannell, according to once source, has told Peppard to keep his opinions about his co-star to himself ("The man is an embarrassment," Peppard said of T in a recent TV interview.) How does NBC view the feud? "They may not be getting along," says network programming chief Brandon Tartikoff, "but they're doing their best work of the last few years."
"Goodbye, Mr. T?"
THE A-TEAM is about to pick up a new member---actually, an old war buddy who stayed behind in Vietnam but will rejoin the team for an upcoming mission. Will the character (yet to be cast) become a regular next season? The producers, says one source, haven't decided, but there's speculation that the new man could replace Mr. T, whose relations with his A-TEAM-mates have been less than A-OK this season.
"Taxing His Sanity" (my favorite)
Last week, we reported that three new characters will be joining NBC's THE A-TEAM this fall. Well, add one more to the list: inside word is that the show's producers are planning to introduce the brother of "Howling Mad" Murdock (Dwight Schultz.) To ensure the family resemblance---and possibly even to save a little money--Schultz will play both roles. At this stage, says a source, all that's known is that Murdock's brother will be a conservative CPA type---the complete antithesis of "Howling Mad."
"Frankie Talk"
The newest member of THE A-TEAM, Eddie Velez, who'll play a brash special-effects expert named Frankie Santana, says he doesn't think he's joined a sinking ship. On the contrary: "From talking to [co-star] George Peppard, I get the impression that everybody is up for it this season." But what about THE A-TEAM's declining ratings? "Well, I guess even The A-Team has to call someone when they're in trouble," says Velez. "They called me." (Heh, heyh. He's kiddin', guys.)
