So how could we make it more inviting for people like you to want to participate more, jopierce?
Would it help to just have more general discussion threads, like who is your favorite character and why?
I hope anyone would just jump in on any episode that they like and start posting. Even if someone has only seen one episode and they want to comment on that one, that is great.
Before we were doing the fan forum viewing, we didn't have any specific format. Just whoever was watching whatever episode would post about that episode. And then it seemed like more wanted to do the forum viewing, but now I think it is only me, HD, and miz even doing it.
I haven't really participated much on other fan forums, so I don't know what they do differently that would maybe encourage others to post more here.
But if you have anything to post, please don't feel intimidated! ;D

Jo, I know how you feel. I'm on several other fandom boards and this is the only one that, to me, feels just like my favorite flannel and slippers. It *is* tough to break the ice, and, unlike you, I can be a shy wallflower in real life. This board has been a real confidence-booster to me, and I've even met a couple of the members off-board. For what it's worth, I have signed up for the GAH board, at HD's behest, and I still don't feel like I know enough to post. Also for what it's worth, I know HD, Amy and I have sort of become the "big three" here just because of our posting volume, but we're actually starved for some fresh perspectives. I love it when a new member joins us. Heck, since I'm a "second-generation" TAT fan myself, I especially love those types. Feel free to post as much or as little as you'd like, Jo. I think we *are* a very friendly and warm bunch and we certainly would never judge you or criticize you. Would it help if we started my long-awaited "Murdock is Hot" thread? ;D ;D

You need to give Frankie more love. Seriously though, I think you have a lot of things covered - so it's not an issue of making it inviting. You have lots of threads that are very general, with short answers. But there aren't a lot of responses... Are you interested in getting the lurkers to post? Or getting the lurkers who are already members to post more often? So instead, think about how people join forums for different purposes and for varying commitment levels - varying from the hardcore mega-poster, the occassional poster, and the lurker. I think you may want to aim for the occassional posters, not the lurkers. What is a lurker, anyway? A bot? Or a member who didn't bother to sign in? If a lurker steps up and posts, GREAT! But chances are they don't post for reasons that are impossible to know. If they posted, you may figure out why. Know what I mean? If the question is why do you have so many lurkers, maybe you can try to just get people posting once, and then entice them into posting a little more... then a little more... It worked with me! ;D Maybe a subboard in the Loony Bin for Introductions? And make it clear on the main page that it's there, not hidden in the Looney Bin? Another thing, I would personally change the default color scheme a tiny bit. The brown is dark, and on some of the computers I use, the dark green is illegible. If it's too hard to read, people will just move on to the next fan site... One thing, though, is that you may want to make the forum more inviting for people who are interested in the remake. I know that is like sacriledge, but who knows? You could find hundreds of Liam Neeson fans interested in the old show, but if they come here and see the only part of the forum devoted to the new "Revitalization Attempts." Once it's made, it's not an "attempt" anymore. In fact, it's a production. So not alienating future fans may be good... Then again, you could make it a forum solely devoted to the classic show. There is nothing wrong with that, of course. But then don't be surprised if a lot of new people don't sign up if they actually like the new movie. Another thing I have seen on some boards are boards that are ONLY for members. So, in order to see them, you have to sign in. That way, if someone comes by just to see what's up, but sees nothing they want to comment on, they will just not sign in. If they know there are a few secret boards for members only, they may sign in more often to see if there is new stuff. Just my 2 cents. Well, more like 2 dollars, I guess. ;D

I don't think it's sacrilege to devote more space to the upcoming movie at all; we might, as you said, draw more attention (is there even a forum for the movie, other than the one at IMDB?) In fact, I'm counting on the movie to bring in more TAT fans. ;D I do have to agree with you that the color scheme may need to be re-vamped just a bit. Wasn't Mosame going to do that at some point? And also, your point about the board being kind of "labyrinthine" is true. One thing I'd like to see is the bullet hole appearing for all sub-forums in which there are unread messages (they disappear after you click on just one.) Since there are so few of us, we tend to discuss a point and then move on to something else. It's not as if my invisible friends have much to say. One thing I think that's helped with the more casual fans is the threads about the actors' other roles, the fun stuff like the Either/Or Game, and the movie thread. We could maybe do some more non-TAT threads, too? I still think we need a Murdock Is Hot thread, myself. Or we could do a Frankie thread.

Good advice, all! Actually, the updated forum idea (especially in terms of color) are being introduced right after the forum viewing and some odds and ends. I figure that the site will be down for a day or so right after Christmas to bring in all of the new stuff we are adding/changing. And a lot of the ideas mentioned here are going to be there when we re-open. So just hang around/lurk a couple of more weeks! ;D

Hey there again! ;D We're in a bit of a lull right now, since most of our regulars either work all the time or are travelling right now, but I'm sure we'll get crankin' again soon, possibly with another run-through of the episodes. Pull up a chair and have some crazy juice!
