A renegade S.W.A.T unit can be hired to kill people. When another police officer learns about it, he hires the ATeam to bring them to justice
Sidney's Rating Scale: this is a 9 for me. I've decided to give Murdock his own rating from now on - he gets an 11. I love Maloney as a client - an honest cop standing up for what he knows is right. This episode is also the first VA breakout scam with real Face and the tuberculous scam is awesome. Murdock is adorable singing the song to Stark. All and all a great episode. couple of things I did not like - Amy jumping out of the van all cocky-like when she's listening to the bugs. But I love Hannibal putting her in her place when he says " we"ll see you later, kiddo". The look on Amy's face Also the tag scene when she says " for the Jazz, man for the Jazz". I hate the way she says it for some reason
So what do you all think?

I only give this one a 5 on the Sidney scale. I take off 1 point for Murdock not being with the team earlier, 1 point for boredom with the Indian Dunes scene, 2 points for boredom I feel during the whole amusement park scene (which really drags to me and I even sort of dozed off during it), and 1 point for Amy's "for the jazz, man" in the tag scene.

Wow! Really? I love it all. I think it's a great episode. The only thing that could have made it better is a flight scene, I think. I loved Murdock's laugh as the van drives away. I love BA making little microphones and Amy and Face sewing them in... And Face using the extinguisher for that scam? He was so convincing and they were pretty dumb cops. I love them dressed all in black. I love watching murdock hop over the bumper cars. I love Al from Quantum Leap and Fulllllllbright playing a bad guy.
I'm a little disheartened if I believe Amy when she says they do it for the jazz. I don't believe that. I think they do it to right wrongs and help the little guy. It's disappointing for me to think that they only do it for the adrenaline rush.

I thought it was hysterical Face spraying the fire extinguisher around like that but like he said in another episode - people rarely pay attention to what is right under their noses. Love Murdock jumping over the cars - sigh. And them dressed in the black pants and camo - woah that's nice right there
I agree with your observation on the jazz - I think they do what they do because they all have a strong sense of wanting to help people - people that cannot help themselves out of their bad situations. I think the jazz is just a by product of that. I always thougt the jazz or adrenaline rush just helped them deal with life and death situation. It's why they can help when others can't - they really put themselves out there. It helps them but it's not the driving force for why they take cases

However, even in the pilot episode, they did talk a lot about the jazz. Remember how Amy "caught the jazz" or whatever and that made her want to stay with the team? But I still don't think the jazz is the motivation for what they do.

It just makes it fun. Or maybe... Just maybe there's more to the jazz then just an adrenaline rush? Maybe it's getting n adrenaline rush by helping people?

I think they add the jazz to make it more exciting - They are coming out of a war where they were part of suicide impossible missions all the time. When you basically survive or conquer a mission where any other team would fail that has to be such a high. Now they are in civilian life and that must in many ways seem so boring. So I think they and Hannibal just like to spice things up. Add the some more danger. Maybe they need that to keep them sharp and focused.

I like this episode. It always seems fresh whenever I watch it. The setting is great, and there is never a dull moment with the plot, there is something important happening all the time. I do find it a bit irritating that they establish the bad guys a lot through the A-Team talking about how dangerous they are, and I'd agree with most "lowlights" in this thread, but they don't seem to detract from the episode much.

The nurses line during the tuberculous scam that " Mr Murdock spends most of his time be himself " makes me very sad if it's true. I hate to think of Murdock being alone so often

I hate to think of Murdock being alone so often It sounds kinda sad but it actually makes alot of sense if you think about it. He stays to himself alot probably so he will be in his room to catch a call from one of the guys about a job. Also it is probably really stressful to not be crazy and only using it as a cover ( which is what I think) and being surrounded by the truly mentally ill.

With Murdock's high intelligence, I think he might prefer being alone a lot of the time, perhaps reading up on things. Maybe that's why he knows so many things and so many different languages. Maybe he spends a lot of the time at the VA studying up on things?

So I just watched this episode and was thinking about how when Hannibal is trying to justify his Achilles heel plan, he talks about how it's based on a previous plan they did in Vietnam - and Face says something like, "the one where I got shot in the leg?"(And Murdock got shot down). And Hannibal replies that at least doing this plan again means all the kinks have been ironed out.
So i thought this was pretty similar to Hannibal's dream sequence in season 5 court-martial episode (yeah, I skimmed ahead!), where they break out of prison and running on the beach, and Face gets shot in the leg. Then afterwards, Face asks how the plan's coming along, and Hannibal replies that there's a few kinks he needs to work out.
It just struck me with the similarities that maybe Hannibal is harbouring some latent guilt from the plan that went wrong in Vietnam?
And maybe that is why BA is so upset in this episode (he makes a snide comment later about how his part of the plan always works - in reference to something mechanical i think). Maybe he remembers what happened last time, and doesn't want Face or anyone else to get hurt again.

I think in this episode after Face breaks him out, he greets the rest of the team with "hey guys, long time no see", and I was REALLY hoping he was being ironic cause maybe he just saw them all a few days ago... rather than it having been actually a long time since he saw them all... which is also a bit sad.... Although I do think Murdock is an introvert, and he seemed quite happy playing on that pinball machine by himself and a bit annoyed at the interruption from Face, so I think he is probably quite content reading, studying etc. like AmyK suggests.

Oh, there's some more good fodder for fanfiction.....maybe Sidney can write about this plan back in 'Nam that went awry.

Earlier in the show's run, like season 1, it does seem that the team goes on missions without Murdock (off-screen, as BLACK DAY AT BAD ROCK), and that maybe they really don't see him as often as they seem to later.
