Well The A-Team was already a franchise once it had the TV Series. It's just a matter of if it will be back in the spotlight again. The movie WAS done more like a prequel though, SPOILER! because it doesn't have the typical helping the client thing, it's them trying to clear their names. Only in the end they still end up going back to prison, but then, well I think you can guess what they do after they escape. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I don't know, I already realized it wasn't going to be "our" A-Team, and once I put that aside, I could enjoy it more. But the movie was good in it's own right, not just because it had A-Team in the title. Now I don't feel that way about everything with change, because I really feel this is one occasion where it wasn't really bad. Although it probably had something to do with Stephen J. Cannell being a creative consultant and producer. Ok. Yeah, I sound a little pissed. Sorry, about that Aquamaniac, but I'm just glad the movie finally got made, and the result was enjoyable, which cannot be said for most TV Adaption films.

You're right, I wasn't thinking about the franchise that TAT really WAS in the '80s, if you think of all the products, toys, etc. etc. from it. It seems like nearly every review of every non-critic has been fairly positive about the movie, so you may get your sequel from it. Just so we don't have to constantly clarify which Murdock, which Face, etc. we are talking about on these forums. If it gets like that, I think we would need to separate compartments to discuss characters. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

There personalities are just different enough to be able to tell the differences. But that's a good thing, I wouldn't want them to be carbon copying the original cast. There should be something to make them stand there own.

Been reading through this thread, and wanted to say thanks to everyone for sharing their opinions on the new movie.
I have not seen it. I kind of want to see it, out of curiosity, but will probably wait until it comes out on DVD. (Ack, I wrote out VHS, and then erased it. Boy, I'm old...)
I guess I can see both sides here. I hate to see a classic done incorrectly (if there is such a thing), but I can appreciate remakes when they are fun. An open mind is good...
Also, thanks for the heads up on the cameos! Would hate to miss that!

26 mil? Wow, that's not good. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) And I even went to see it twice. I'm not sure I really like the idea of the show being re-booted (see under KNIGHT RIDER, THE BIONIC WOMAN, HAWAII FIVE-O) so I'm kind of glad, in a subtle way. The show stands on its own merits and I don't think a remake is necessary. My 12-year-old cousin, along with several other kids I know, like the original just as it is: its time frame, its supposed cheesiness, its lack of cell phones and BlackBerries, etc., etc. So that's proof to me that it can appeal to a "modern" audience. If I had been the one in charge of the movie, my first choice would have been a "how they met" story actually set in Vietnam. Second choice, if it had to be in the modern era, would be more like the SHOTGUN WEDDING comic, which I actually really liked. (Maybe I should post a review of that one too. It's almost like a nice blend of TILL DEATH DO US PART and JUDGMENT DAY.) ;D

Hi all, I've been busy with buying a new house and getting ready to move lately, so haven't been around much. I did get to the movie on Saturday night, however, and here's my rather lengthy and long-winded review: www.associatedcontent.com/article/5485852/the_ateam_a_camp_classic_transformed.html?cat=40For those who want the quick comments: I give it a B. I liked most of the performances except for Neeson as Hannibal. Loved the nods to the original very much, really didn't like the summer action movie trappings. I'll get it on DVD, but doubt I'll see it a second time in the theaters.

Thanks for posting that review, Sockii. Very well-written. Some nice little in-jokes that were there too (mild spoilers): ~ When Murdock and his fellow VA inmates are watching a 3-D movie, they play the original TAT credits music. One of the actors in the movie is supposedly called Reginald Barclay...blink and ya miss it. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ~ When Hannibal is put into the crematorium when faking his own death, the doctor's name on his toe tag is "Dr. Schultz." ~ In the fake press conference scene where Face and Murdock go to steal some credentials, SC as Murdock does his "Wikus" voice from D9 and remarks that the South African mic is in the wrong spot.

Thanks for your review, sockii.....it really helps me to know what you thought of it. What's funny is that I make a big deal that I'm not planning to see the movie......but what most people here may not realize is that it is pretty much a given that I don't even have the opportunity to see it in a theater. So it is not like this decision is really an agonizing one for me! ;D But at least now I don't really feel like I'm missing out. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

None that would be playing THE A-TEAM movie, unless maybe it was made in Bollywood. ;D But I did see one of those Arnold Schwarzenegger shoot-em-up movies one time on a bus.....I think it was COMMANDO or something like that, and one time I also saw a WALKER, TEXAS RANGER thing that I think was a 2-hour TV movie on a bus, so you never know! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

One of the actors in the movie is supposedly called Reginald Barclay...blink and ya miss it. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) That was one of my favorite bits. Someone else said there might be some more in-jokes in the on-screen credits, but I'll have to wait until I see it again to catch those. But I was HOWLING in the theater when I saw Reg Barclay show up. Yeah, loved that, too. I was listening to some of Dwight's radio show today, from last week when he was sitting in for Jerry Doyle, and I love that he was just every day commenting on how much he admired Sharlto and believed he should be a superstar. He didn't care how the movie turned out, he just loved what Sharlto had done with the screentest for Murdock, and the time they'd had to talk to each other on the set. So that gives me the happys more than anything else. I really do wish they'd done better with Hannibal, though. That really was one of the downers for me, and I LOVE Liam Neeson in general. He just wasn't right for that part, IMHO, at least if I was going to compare his Hannibal to the original. As a new character, he was fine. But he wasn't "Hannibal" the way the other actors in the movie really seemed able to try to channel the spirits of the original characters.

The unofficial weekend numbers are in: boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=main&id=ateam.htmA 26 million dollar first weekend on a 110 million budget, looks like a FLOP!!! ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) It has made 15 million in Europe though, so outside of the US it may make enough money to break even, perhaps a little more. Though hopefully it won't be successful enough for a sequel to be greenlit. Wohooo, today is a good day! Seriously? You're really being cocky about this. If there's a potential to revive the franchise because of the movies success, you'd think people would be more supportive. How is that being cocky? That's just me being happy that this movie, which IMO should never have been made, is not doing well which could prevent any further efforts of making another movie. It's not an "In yo face"-thing towards you. The only Team that exists for me is the original, so I'm obvously not interested in a new franchise with a new team. Ok. Yeah, I sound a little pissed. Sorry, about that Aquamaniac, No offence taken ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I already know that the movie doesn't refer to the jazz or the Aquamaniac. But I have not heard anyone say if Hannibal ever calls the bad guys "slimeballs".....I'm thinking someone would have mentioned it if he did, right? I was just reading my review of POINT OF NO RETURN from last November and this was one thing I wrote in it: Anyone know where the link to the fake movie clip is? I would like to watch that again for kicks. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I honestly don't think that would be a good idea, and it would probably be worse if they actually did it in movie. It would feel more like a parody.

Sockii: Good review. We have several areas of agreement and a few areas where we don't. I will have to get mine typed up one of these days. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)
