I agree with the brother/sister thing - that's at best. At worst, I see Face really not wanting Amy along at all, so he's just tolerating her and taking jabs whenever possible. (Gotta admit I loved his giving her that 'grease' for the tracks in Range Ryder.)

Oh now that is interesting - I had not thought much, if at all, that Face maybe did not really want Amy along. I would think it would be more likely Hannibal or B.A. since they seem to be sort of the more "macho men" kind of guys. But now that you mention it, maybe Face felt threatened by Amy since maybe she would take over some of his scams or something.

Maybe I'm projecting a bit, but I got the idea he thought she was a little too confident and needed taking down a peg or two - especially since she could really be a liability in close situations.

I do agree there's tension between them. I'm not sure WHY though. It strikes me as odd because Face usually likes girls. He definitely doesn't want her on the team though.

I don't think Face finds it easy to trust anyone, so maybe he struggles more with accepting new long-term relationships than the rest of the team. Maybe he did not really believe Amy was that committed to the team. Apparently he was right if she ran out on them for a job in Jakarta....

It could also have to do with the way she got onto the team in the first place - "Let me in on this or I'll write an expose'!" Not exactly confidence-inspiring, especially to a [cynical] conman.

Although she threatened, I think the team probably did not really worry that she was going to write an expose on them. Do you think they really believed she would do that? I don't really know if that was a serious threat or not. Maybe this is the topic of another debate?

They found the tape, so why wouldn't they think she'd go through with it? And this was, after all, before she'd gotten to really know them - they were just 4 guys she could use.

But even if she had written something about them, I don't see how it would be any worse than her writing about things up all the time in the paper. By season 3 or 4, it seems like they themselves go around announcing to everyone who they are way too much. That's one of the main things I liked much better about the pilot than many other episodes, i.e. that the team was only a rumor and even knowing if they existed seemed much more mysterious. Wish they had really kept that angle.

But definitely agree with the rumor bit - would've been much better if they'd kept that "Who was that masked man?" thing going.

Maybe they enjoyed the publicity if it sort of rankled the MPs though....I could see Hannibal being on the jazz about that. It seemed that later in the show it became much too easy for them to just be out in the open. Even after they were supposedly wanted 10x more or whatever for murder (in season 5), it seemed like they just announced to the world where they were, like especially when B.A. Baracus is running around gathering his old football buddies and when the announcer lets everyone know that B.A. is playing football in East Germany.

Here's another one:
I keep hearing people mention "the real Face" versus his persona. Who is the "real" Face? Is there a "real" Face?
I think that all of it is just "aspects" of his personality, therefore, there is no "real" Face...only different parts of the same man.

I think that all of it is just "aspects" of his personality, therefore, there is no "real" Face...only different parts of the same man. I think we got a glimpse of the 'real' Face in Only Church - but Hannibal's reaction in the plane kind of explains why that stays hidden. But I also think the idea of the 'real' Face came out through things like "The Out of Towners". When Hannibal got slugged by those thugs, Face was out the door in a flash to intervene - but as soon as the danger was over, he made a big deal about his cut finger. Things like that kinda set up the idea of the cavalier exterior and the caring interior. So I guess I'd agree that things were part of his total personality, but he chose how much of those would show at any given time.

I see what you mean about the "real" Face perhaps including aspects of him such as his conning, his whining, etc. but I guess what I mean by the "real" Face is the one who he really seems to be deep in his heart. I guess I analyze Face like I would analyze myself - there are parts of me that people don't know much about, but when I think of myself, I probably think more about those parts than about the person that people see on a regular basis. So, in some sense, those things are more the "real" me than things that may be more obvious. But of course there is a sense where we are all a total package, the parts seen by everyone around us and what we think on the inside, too. Maybe the "real" Face for me is just who I really want him to be.

Face very much wears a social mask, many of them actually, and therein lies the trick, distinguishing which one is the "real" one. I do think he is wounded and that is what drives him many times. But I also think he LIKES girls and suits, and money. So that is the "real" him as well. We speak of his loyalty and yet, there were several times he tried to leave the team. He's actually quite the interesting character.
