Sidney's Rating Scale: 10 !!!! There are only two episode in the entire series that rates a perfect 10 for me and this is one. I love almost every second of the episode. Now normally I try not to say to much at first to let you all for first crack but this is my 10 so here goes
Honestly the only thing that I don't like about this episode is when Amy lets the team know that Murdock was not at the hospital - it seems like their first concern was not for Murdock but that they don't have a pilot for the mission. I think their reactions would and should have been worry for Murdock - but that is just a small thing in an otherwise awesome episode
I think this episode has some of the best dialogue and interaction between the guys of the entire series. And while normally I don't like when the team is split - here the Murdock/Ba and Hannibal/Face pairing is so awesome - so many great lines, acting, playing off each other. I love it. And then when they are all together in the cockpit - pure magic.
Murdock is phenomenal in here - taking control when the plan goes wrong and BA goes catatonic - saving Face from being shot - flying a plane blind. Being so cool and calm and in control and so so so sexy that I just can't stand it. I think the reason Hannibal was not worried when the plan went bad even though Face was getting worked up was because Hannibal just knew that Murdock would pull something off to save them. Murdock would do what he always does and that's save his team. SIGH and SWOON
So I have so much more I can say - but lets hear from you. I know there are a lot of Beast lovers out there. But I also know that some of you don't like this one as much - I would love to hear your opinion on why. And then I can tell you how wrong you are - kidding, kidding

I don't know when I'll have time to watch this one, as my week is a bit crazy, but I definitely want to watch it in the near future! And yes, I also love this one. Probably the main thing I don't like is that I believe Amy is introduced as a member of the team. On the other hand, I do have to give her credit for what she does to save the guys.

Yes I forgot about the Amy introduction. - and she gets this smug look on her face - yes not a fan of that either But she did help save the guys there so I guess credit where credit is due

Here is something I have wondered about - the title "The Beast for the Belly of a Boeing ". What or who is the beast ? Now Murdock and BA were the ones in the "belly" of the plane - is one of them supposed to be the beast? Personally I think it is Murdock because he was so fierce in this episode - sigh

Great point, lady jay. I really need to watch that one again, even though I can spout whole chunks of it word for word with the guys. Such a classic. And yes, Murdock is FABULOUSLY fierce. Sigh....

Is that title a reference to something else that I "don't get"? Maybe both BA and Murdock together make up the "beast"?

It's the Beast FROM the Belly of a Boeing.. I think it's a play on the old B movie Horror movies. Like the Monster from the black lagoon stuff like that. Ya know Movies Hannibal would have played the monster in.
I really REALLY love this episode. Even the Amy aspect I can overlook. I know some people don't like the lack of concern from the rest of the team about Murdock's absence from the VA but I think at the time they had the lives of over like 300 people to think about..where they knew their Captain could take care of himself. He did pull them out of the can in Borneo. So if the season had shown anything it was that Murdock was resourceful and they knew it.
Love the crestfallen look on Murdock's face when BA complains about being stuck with him. Love all the banter between Hannibal and Face.. Also the Banter between Murdock and BA. The thing about this one is it shows just how NOT crazy Murdock is. He was in control from jump street.Even when he yelled at BA and told him he Needed to come up with a plan..(Cause let's face it..would you want to be stuck in a baggage compartment with a very Angry BA)Ya know he had a plan but he knew BA needed something to focus on..that didn't involve throttling Murdock.
Did anyone else notice Face trip Murdock when Hannibal was helping him to the cockpit. I do and I think it was Dirk screwing with Dwight. We have found other instances of it and they both have talked about some times during cons and what not.
Also got give Props to Airplane the movie for lending the airport scene! (when the plane goes through the airport window)
this is one ep that I could go ON And ON about.

Thanks katiemarie1 - I just noticed my typo in my one post - yes from not for. I agree with everything you said. - and I like your thoughts on Murdock telling BA he had to come up with a plan - I never thought about it that way - that Murdock was only doing it to get BA to focus on something other then being on an airplane I laugh everytime Face trips Murdock and yes I think it was intentional too.

I was just thinking about one of my first comments that while on the plane once the plan went wrong - Hannibal seemed very calm and not worried - which I know is partly just his personality but I think the other reason is because he knew Murdock would pull them out of the fire. He had faith in his Captain. So that got me thinking - was there ever an instance on the show when Hannibal did question Murdock's abilities? I can't think of one off the top of my head. BA, yes, every show but in BA's case I contend that it was all a show that BA really did have the utmost faith in Murdock but his words would paint another picture if you did not know him
Face - and this irks me every single time - there are a few instances when Face seems to doubt Murdock's abilities and his sanity - I hate that
But Hannibal - I can't think of a single time - he always stood by and defended Murdock. Unless I am not remembering correctly?........

There are times when Hannibal has to redirect Murdock/get him back on track with the mission. But I can't think of any times he doubts Murdock's abilities.
I don't think Hannibal ever doubts ANY of their abilities, does he? Which is one of the reasons he's such an awesome leader.

True - he also understands each weaknesses - that is why in Incident on Crystal Lake - he just "knew" that Face would not be able to resist the pretty blond in distress on the side of the highway.

Yay! I'm watching this one now....one of the lines (of so many) that I love is when BA says, "What am I...the doorman?" Also, I don't think the team was necessarily unconcerned about Murdock. As mentioned, Hannibal has a lot more on his plate right at that moment, and I'm sure that if they finished the mission and Murdock was still missing, they would have done something about it. They only had about 30 seconds to even consider what Murdock's absence meant before he showed up, too.
I don't quite understand what happened with the plane's takeover....the hijackers picked a strange time, in my opinion, to hijack the plane...before it even left the runway. And then they take off, but what do they do? Was the plane hijacked from LAX and then they just flew around in circles? Or was it hijacked from some other airport and then they flew over to LAX?
Looking forward to my favorite Hannibal line of the entire series (except maybe ILIWAPCT)...."I never go to the bathroom!" Love that so much!

I don't necessarily think Murdock was only wanting BA to come up with a plan in order to distract BA. I'm not sure if Murdock would have thought on his own about sending the message to Face and Hannibal. "Go to lavatory." "I can't, I went before I left." Love it!!!
I wish so much that they had continued throughout the series to have Face and Hannibal sing "You Are My Sunshine" from time to time. I think they only did that three times, right? Here, in HOLIDAY IN THE HILLS, and also in BLOOD, SWEAT, AND CHEERS? I think they are so cute singing together.
Funny that the hijackers let Face go to the bathroom when they are planning on him dying in just a few minutes. I guess they consider it kind of like a "last request?"
I love how concerned Face is about Murdock when he is blinded. BA, too.
I just wonder how the team got the plane under control after the door blew off....how could they replace it?
"This is my worst nightmare!" Poor BA.
I don't think Dirk purposely tripped Dwight there...I think that his legs were just sticking out and Dwight shut his eyes probably as part of his playing the role and accidentally tripped....but I could be wrong.
The scene with all four in the cockpit is truly one of the best times in the whole series, if not THE best, when all the team are together. I feel that they all get a chance to display their personalities so well...Murdock as the great pilot (even blinded); Hannibal cool, calm, and collected under intense pressure; BA terrified of flying; and Face with his sarcastic anxiety. I love it when he talks about saying a short prayer and some warm good-byes. So funny.
A definite 10!!! Maybe a 20!!!
