I remember reading something years ago that Peppard was injured during an episode and that it held up filming for weeks. If I recall it correctly, the account said that he fell from a truck and cut himself on rocks. If that is correct, I wondered if the ep was DEADLY MANEUVERS. George clearly did some of his own dangerous looking stunts when clambered out of the door of the moving truck during Hannibal's solo attack on the compound.
Has this ever come up in the forum before? I would be really interested to hear if anyone knows more about this.

I don't recall this ever coming up on the forum before, and I don't know anything about it. I always think that Dirk did his own stunt going over the fence in BEVERLY HILLS ASSAULT (and that it seemed he may have hurt himself doing that) and also that he did his own backwards somersault in JUDGMENT DAY. And I think Dwight hurt his back in THE ONLY CHURCH IN TOWN when he sort of swung around and grabbed a gun that someone (maybe GP) was throwing at him. But I am unaware of GP being injured and holding up filming because of that. I still want to know though why he had a band-aid on in whichever episode he wore the band-aid.

Maybe it was one of the previous episodes that season. I don't recall anything about Peppard being injured on set, but I could see it happening. A number of stunts look like they were done by the team, especially when close up fighting or some running and jumping. Not all, but a number of them over the years.

Even the things that are not actually stunts, like the fighting scenes which I realize are just staged by camera angles and such to appear that they are punching out people, seem like they could go wrong and be dangerous. And there did seem to be a lot of running that the actors had to do. I also still believe that GP is truly carrying Mr. T much of the time when BA is supposed to be knocked out, and I don't understand how he could do that.

I've recently re-watched RANGE RIDER only this time with Dirk and Dwight's commentary.
I noticed that GP did a number of dangerous stunts including running across the roof of the moving train. He perilously slips at one point, as Dwight and Dirk noted! GP also hangs outside the helicopter at the end grinning at the camera as he flies off!
Its also an ep where GP carries Mr T to a flying vehicle. I reckon it may be the last ep where GP did this on his own. I guess it shows how strong GP was even in his mid-fifties.
The RANGE RIDER commentary was the third I'd listened to and the weakest one in my opinion. Dirk and Dwight spend minutes saying nothing. I think they were just enjoying watching the ep, which is understandable! There are still some interesting insights though. Dwight and Dirk said that they had the feeling at the time that RANGE RIDER was as good as it was going to get, and I feel that they were right.

Do they ever laugh at themselves (or their characters actually I suppose) in the commentary? I would like to hear their commentary on RANGE RIDER, as that is my favorite episode.
I've mentioned probably multiple times how impressed I am that GP carries Mr T! As noted, GP was not a spring chicken and although Mr T was relatively short, I do think with all his muscle that he must have weighed a significant amount.

They do laugh at themselves from time to time - in the sense of laughing because the on-screen antics are so funny. I remember that they laughed when Murdock put on the Range Rider mask. During the INSANE WAYNE commentary, they also laughed at Murdock when he was pretending to be Wayne. I am sure that there are other instances.
Part of the problem is that they sometimes seem to be enjoying the episodes and then forget to talk! This seemed to be particularly the case on RANGE RIDER - but that is quite understandable. There were some interesting asides during RANGE RIDER nonetheless. They talked about how good and organised was the director of that ep. They then mentioned Michael O'Herlehey who was so good they were home at 4pm on one day, apparently. They said other un-named directors would waste too much time. GP would signal that the director wasnt up to it, and the person would never be asked to back to work on any other eps. I think I remembered that correctly.
They also talked several times in the commentaries about how they used to beg Cannell and Lupo to write more episodes.
On UK Amazon both the blu ray and DVD boxsets with the commentaries are still available, though neither are particularly cheap. Did they issue the boxsets in the US?

I don't know if there are any boxsets that can be watched on American DVD players which have the commentaries, but I have so many DVDs already of TAT that I'm not sure I could justify buying yet another set, although if there were sufficient bonus features, I may consider it.
I like that they laugh at their own characters and the way they portray them. I also agree with them that I wish Cannell and Lupo had written more episodes, as those are often some of the best ones.

SJC and Lupo were definitely the brains and hearts behind the best episodes of this show. A shame that they are both gone.

I haven't listened to all the commentaries on the box set yet, but RANGE RIDER was the first one I listened to because it's such a great episode and I do agree with your comments that there are times when they seemed to forget to talk! I wonder if they really knew what was expected of them when they agreed to do these commentaries? It's great fun to hear them talk, of course, but a lot of the time they're reminiscing about people or situations we know nothing about so it doesn't really mean anything to us. Also there are several times when they clearly can't remember what was going on at all (I don't blame them, it was a long time ago!) so they have nothing interesting to say.
It would be fun to hear them talk about the times when things went wrong during filming - such as accidents and mistakes/bloopers, or even the arguments and that kind of thing - but sadly they just can't remember that kind of detail anymore.

I wonder if they really just sat down and watched episodes and recorded their discussion while they did that or if they had to at least watch them through once and then watch again and comment. Maybe it would have been better if they did that and coordinated a bit what they were going to say during the actual commentary recording. I guess that would be less spontaneous, but maybe more worthwhile.

It really felt to me like they had just sat in front of these episodes for the first time in decades.
They needed some kind of facilitator to prompt them when they forgot to talk or when they got off on a tangent. There was one time when they spent precious minutes trying to remember an actor's name.
All that said, these are the only commentaries we have or are ever likely to get about our favourite show. I am grateful to be able to listen to these recordings.

Your idea of having a facilitator sounds like it would have worked better.....but better this than no commentaries at all.

I am weary about how factual some of the stories that Dwight and Dirk share are now. I'm not trying to be offensive; please remember how much I love them. I'm just thinking about what happens over time. Your feelings distort your memories. And it was forty years ago now. I'm sure embellishment and bias skew their telling of what was going on. I'd still listen to them if I had a chance. I just wonder when they go on about George or T or even the network, how much of it is accurate.
Speaking of "if I had a chance". Why on earth would they not release the boxset here, too? Isn't that the strangest thing ever?
And why hasn't someone illegally put it on YouTube or something yet? Man, the things you can find on YouTube and no one has put this there yet...

I have to agree, Sidney.
It'd be different if they had done it after the end of the season, or even the series end. Much fresher memories. Still might be off base in their remembering, but 40 years is a long time to remember certain things behind the scenes.
